Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
I deleted my account because forums are 99.9% an absolute waste of time for me. But...
I managed to preorder a Korg ARP 2600 today from Musician's Friend. They had two people cancel, one more might be available. Best place to preorder IMO due to the $300+ in reward points you get.
I'm so stoked I just had to recreate an account here to participate in the 2600 forums.
Looks absolutely amazing in that room. I might have to toss my bed out to make space and live in a minimalist room with my 2600 on the floor...

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
Thank you Sparks and KSS info. This is super useful. Still hoping for delivery this week.
Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
Sadly not at this time no, but they will soon bleep and bloop again.

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
the korg ship dates got pushed back a month or two because of coronavirus supply chain issues in Japan/China.

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
I'm hoping its still this month, but to be honest, knowing my position in the queue was more important as I really don't mind a wait as long as I get one!
Where have I seen you before?

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
Yeah, my retailer says mid-late April at earliest, musicians friend seemed to say similar... but with COVID19 slowdown, i'm guessing July or later at least for those who aren't at the very top of the queue. I wouldn't mind any wait if i was 100% confident about it.thispoison wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 5:40 pmI'm hoping its still this month, but to be honest, knowing my position in the queue was more important as I really don't mind a wait as long as I get one!

Lovely.
Glad they are still trickling out. Can't wait until mine arrives. Will be so excited when they start showing up in the US.

Amazing. Musician’s Friend still on the April 22nd-25th estimate, however I have a feeling it’ll be later.

Re: Inside the Korg ARP 2600
The original is similarly mostly empty.
There is more than nostalgia to be considered here. While some may feel the size difference is 'wasted space', I will contend that user interface usability is at least as important. In this case, that is an original vs now statement. But it holds even if this were an entirely new design. Like the old Macbeth M5 for example. Even though that is not really related to anything 2600, its large size was a *very* conscious choice Ken made having to do with the feeling of working with it. Not its contents.
Just because something *can* be made smaller does not mean it should be!

Though the odyssey was pretty cool!

True, an instrument is about its ergonomics...try playingg a short scal guitar, not for everyone....KSS wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 6:13 pmThe original is similarly mostly empty.

Most people cries about the short keys on Korg Odyssey... well it s good to have a handfull too
Re: Inside the Korg ARP 2600
Ooooh... LM301's - I'm so glad Korg didn't cop out and use "better" op-amps. Even though it's all SMD, you can follow the circuit quite easily.snoop wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 12:09 pmNice find from space station over at Gslutz

Re: Inside the Korg ARP 2600
Similar perhaps, but my memory of the original's interior was a more chaotic space: another layer of pcb's with hand-drawn traces, sealed modules, and a pretty big bundle of wiring along the edge. I think this is quite bare in comparison. I noted and get the interface advantage, and once you commit to that panel size, the ballast of the big case is needed, but it is amusing to me that something so bulky that I will have a giant flight case hefted on me to carry it in could have fit in a Cwejman S1 enclosure, minus the reverb and speakers.
These largely empty enclosures may help account for the fullness of the sound reported from this version's internal speakers.

Don't be mean!

I know £3200 is a lot of money, but I think it's still a lot of synth for that money. I'm even comfortable with all the flight cases and covers I'll have to store looking at MarkSinister's photo.
So glad Korg have done this.

Has yours arrived yet? I guess the sound is important too?

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
I'm not sure what some of the posters were expecting - of COURSE the construction is mainly one plane of PCBA's mounted parallel to the front panel. That's the way a whole lot of synths have been designed for decades. And this is not a bad thing. The inside of the original 2600 wasn't much different, it just had a few extra sub-PCBs plugged into the main boards.
One thing I am a bit surprised to see is the long wire runs with little or no strain relief, allowing the weight of the wires to pull on the connectors. Not the best practice.

Re: Inside the Korg ARP 2600
Nah, the speakers and reverb both fit in a 5U version..

Korg did claim to abandon the original power amps and speakers. Also claiming improved sound over the original 2600s. But you are correct that the larger resonant box does have a notable effect. Many TTSH would be much improved with better speaker installation. Sealing the speaker face to the panel. Completely dumb not to do that. These largely empty enclosures may help account for the fullness of the sound reported from this version's internal speakers.
Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date
I've no idea what would be considered best practice here but those wires don't look heavy enough to put any significant strain on the connectors.
