EPIC DRUMS

Post by Panason » Sat Oct 19, 2019 1:02 pm

Please post video or audio of epic live drum/percussion playing. This can be either solos or bands, and preferably it should be mostly drums/ percussion with few other instruments. If the drumming is like a solo part of a track please indicate the start time. Youtube videos embedded here always play from the start; starting from a specified point doesn't work.

I'll start:

I get "Video unavailable" after clicking play for your Baker/Allen video.

Here's a couple I think are reasonably epic:

There are solos with more showy-offy bits but I’ve always loved this one by Max Roach at around 4:00 for its pacing and sense of musicality. It’s almost melodic.

This whole performance is just awesome, the energy is out of this world.

Michael Shrieve shows you don't need a big kit to play an amazing drum solo, starting at 4:16

Chris Corsano is fairly intense:

Edit: is video embedding a minimum postcount thing or something?

In any case, watch this for ecstatic shaahi baaja drones and huge crashing floods of intense, technical, post-everything drumming.

And here's Valentina Magaletti & João Pais Filipe doing some, idk, freeform percussion duo stuff or whatever:

Crash Worship ADRV
from San Diego, CA mid-80's to the end of the 90's. Incredible live shows, legendary.
3 drummers, 1 "guitar", 2 vocalists, and assorted sounds, synths, tapes, bagpipes, fireworks, wine, fire, smoke, honey, blood.... if you were there you know...

Even though i can appreciate the complexity of certain drummers playing style, i dig the more emotional type drumming even more.

for instance Brian Chippendale of lightning bolt:

Or Damon Che of Don Caballero:
