This is the same ad that I answered a couple of months ago (different city) and the reply was that he left the country (of course), and he wanted me to wire the money or some other nonsense. I'd say it's a 100% chance of being a scam.

Good luck.
Last time I answered an ad like this I got a response from their "assistant" who told me blah blah blah <insert bit about transferring funds internationally due to some family emergency and I would actually end out ahead> blah blah, and that they needed my contact information. I gave them the address to the local FBI office and never heard from them again.
Although, I did just luck out on two boutique amps for the price of one, due to a quick cash liquidation by the neighbor of the shop that sold them to me.
Be weary til you see it, and be ready to run if you got cash.

logic states that anyone in possession of, and giving such a seemingly knowledgeable description of such a vintage item as a 2600 would at least have a general idea of a ballpark value. its too obvious

This scam was on the NYC Craigslist for an Oberheim Four-Voice and another synth I don't remember, both priced at $1,800.
Then, the next day there was a similar listing for a 1957 Strat. Anyway, I hope whoever is doing this gets run over by a bus.

This one pops up in a new city every week with different pictures.
I have to imagine he has to have made a few "sales" so far.

lol.. just got a response.
Hello,
Thank you for your email. I am glad that you want to buy my ARP 2600 With Matching keyboard and the price I am asking is US $1,800.00. From the start I want to inform you that I left the USA a couple of days ago (next day after I listed this for sale) and I came in United Kingdom with my work (I am a member of the "Save The Children Foundation"). If you still want to buy it, we can do it in a very safe way using an escrow company. They will handle the delivery and will offer you a number of days of Inspection so you can test and see that the merchandise is exactly as described by me. I will pay all shipping/escrow fees.
Thanks,
Adam

we'll see bout that... heh.
I told him i would only do it as local pick up or if I get to pick the escrow company. Why post it for sale if you are going to leave the country.. did he take it with him? (unlikely) so i should be able to pick it up locally.. it's sketchy as hell. hahahaha. I can't even take it seriously but we'll see..
I also requested his full contact info. I would never do a deal like this with out confirming his address and talking to him on the phone. I'd also need to see it first. so many factors. Which is why i'm having more fun with this than anything.. It's not legit.

Tell him a 2600 and keyboard is normally worth 8,000 but that you are a collector and a gem in that condition is easily worth 12,000 to you and in good conscience you could pay no less. But that this particular unit bears identifying marks leading you to strongly suspect that it was originally owned by the legendary Rick Wakeman, making it worth at least 20,000 to a collector in the know like yourself. Then ask him when you can schedule an inspection with his local proxy.

Say that you're friends with Ita Ekpeyong and he could deliver the funds locally...
