it's time to discuss cynthia

Post by divisionbyzero » Thu May 17, 2012 2:32 pm

i've got another thread in the buchla section detailing what my interest is in this but i wanted to open up discussion in a place that might attract more eyes.

i'm filing a claim against cynthia in small claims court. part of this process requires that i send her notice of my intended actions but i don't have a current address for cyndustries. i've found two addresses in my email, one in pacific palisades and one in santa monica. if anyone has a more current address could you please pm it to me?

also, i'd like to propose that cynthia's account be banned, similar to the reasons randal and peter g were banned. she owes a lot of money to a lot of people and offers nothing but excuses in return. it's probably well past time for synth folks to accept the truth which is that most of the cool stuff cynthia promises will never be delivered.

update: if you are waiting on an order from cynthia please head here and add your info in (thanks muff for the sticky thread!)

It is well due that Cynthia gets called out as the crook she really is.
I, like many other, paid $1550 over a year ago, some people it seems as far back as 2007 for a ZOe and none of us have received the product.

I have never met anyone like Cynthia who seems to live in a world of an imaginary successful business. I have never met a person who is in total denial that they have "never lied to anyone since I was a child" when all they do is lie in every conversation relating to her business and a product being available.

I am really happy for Divisionbyzero to start this topic up because I was going to do it in a few days anyway.

Personally Cynthia has been given way too much good faith by all of us and needs to be treated exactly the way Peter Grenader and Randal should be dealt with.

CYNTHIA YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE SYNTH COMMUNITY AND I TRUELY BELIEVE YOU ARE MENTALLY ILL. YOU NEED TO GET HELP

I am still waiting for my refund that you promised IN GOOD FAITH 2 months back after paying $1550 in Feb 2011

PEOPLE OF THE SYNTH COMMUNITY DO NOT DEAL WITH CYNTHIA WEBSTER SHE IS A CROOK. and I believe this should be a more accurate title to this post

That gives an error message.

The Santa Monica address was her parent's house, which I believe she sold a couple of years ago. The Glendale address is the workshop, as last I heard.
Remember, she posted this in February.

That is great but we are all being led to believe we will ever get a refund or product. SHe will never refund any of us.

I have unfortunately heard many similar stories going back the last ten years or so, concerning this particular vendor, which is why I have never done business with her. Add to that the few email correspondences I've had with her have left me feeling somewhat "used", like she was trying to palm me off with shit I really didn't need, like a bad sales person, and the reg flags went up.

Sorry to hear about this, it's probably about time she got called out again in public. I hope you all get your money back.

Generally speaking, this notion of "pre-orders" for proposed production units (as opposed to custom jobs) makes no sense to me. If the maker doesn't have or can't lay hands on the capital to get the things made and/or won't proceed without cash in hand because they lack confidence in the product, then maybe everyone should reconsider the whole idea.

I'm building a bunch of cases, for instance, and I won't take a dime until I have something to ship (October, 2015, seemingly :deadbanana: ). There are too many things that can happen between the receipt of payment and shipment of product even under the best of circumstances.
Go make some music.

But seriously folks......you're only in the hole for, at most, a few thousand dollars. Keep some perspective, especially in
regards to the legal system. A small-claims suit would be okay, but pressing it any further will increase the costs by
orders of magnitude. I know attorneys who would take this case, but wouldn't even talk to you unless you slapped down
a $20,000 retainer fee. As a minimum.

It's a corrupt old world out there, and the abuses of Cynthia, Peter Grenader, Randal etc. are minor, compared to the
massive and systemic corruption of Washington, or the banking business. People are screwed out of their life savings
by investment bankers every day. That's probably why Cynthia gets away with it -- large institutions aren't after her.

Don't forget to take a commercial lien against her, if you win in small claims. Get the Nolo Press book on the subject.

Metasonix you are correct the world has bigger crooks but if no one stands up, the crooks keep winning.

i fully expect to win the small claims court case.

i also expect to never see a dime from the judgement. i'm hoping that publicizing this will keep more people from getting ripped off in the future and possibly shut the whole scam down.

if you're reading this and considering sending this person your money, you should really think again.

It is very saddening to hear that things have not gotten better with Cyndustries. I have a ZOe MKI and consider myself one of the lucky few who actually got what I paid for. I received it in April of last year. I don't know why I got one and others didn't. It's such a brilliant module. I was looking forward to the MKII upgrade but I don't think I will be taking the risk of sending it back.

so frustrating that she's still pulling this stuff. It's *always* been like this. I'm amazed any Zeroscilators actually exist, though I've played with a couple myself so I know they do...

yeah.. it's been dead a long time and is only there for.. well, not sure why it's still there but it is.. i guess people waiting on ZOe's can go there (if they need to) if/when they get banned like i did.

for 4 years i emailed her once every 6-12 weeks. talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth. i sold all my Cyndustries modules several years ago. i just couldn't stand to look at them any more.

Good to see folks finally doing something about this. There's a word for someone who takes your money and gives you nothing but lies in return - thief... The "enablers" of people like this who sell/promote their products share some blame too...

Sorry it's too late for advice anyway, but that's far too "friendly" and easygoing.

You hit the creditor every week, then every day, then you start sending registered letters. Then you sue in small claims, physically track down the creditor(s), and shove the subpoena at them in person, or using a registered process server. If they won't negotiate after all that, it's probably hopeless. All you can do is try to get the local police and DA interested in a fraud prosecution. They will want to see proof this creditor did the same to many, many other people.

Why do you think Grenader got away with his craziness? He was in LA County, where the local government is essentially bankrupt, the police are swamped with serious violent crime reports, and there isn't much impetus to pursue a fraud case, unless millions are at stake. Guess what, Cynthia is in LA County also.

Everyone who was had by Cynthia probably needs to pool their complaints and approach her as a unified group. Organize!

When making third party modules for a format with a smallish installed base, the line between production modules and custom work gets a little blurry. I don't think that running a business honorably and taking (some) money up front are incompatible ideas. With Eardrill, I ask for 50% deposits. It makes sure that both sides have some skin in the game. All this said, Cyndustries seems to have a pattern of stretching things out to the point of ridiculousness.

I feel slightly guilty because I actually have a ZOe. I guess I was enough of a publicly squeaky wheel that she sent me one of the first few to shut me up.
