The sound of Eliane Radique - any modules that can do?

Anything modular synth related that is not format specific.

I agree. After listening to several of her pieces today I don't think a filter alone would get you there, even if it is an exact clone of the 2500's filter. She's bringing out the ghosts in that machine. As Richard said, she has a talent for listening.
Well,Something thats is very special and pleasing abouth the 2500 are the filters, they sound very organic compared to any other synthesizer.

If she has that sound its because of the filters, any 2500 owner can agree with that.

I don't know for the multimode filter in the 2500,but certainly for the 24db
anyone interested should look out for the 4075 vcf from bananalogue.

If you push up the resonance on that filter with some fm you get close to that 2500 sound.

And yes amnesia there is life beyond Cars and OMD.. although Cars can be really good and OMD are quite evocative for late 70's underground new wave action (wait... they both actually rock). I had you pegged for more of a Depeche Mode guy. :hihi:

While Radigues stuff is super slow to evolve (which is awesome... I have most recordings)... I suggest another ARP 2500 masterpiece 'ARP ART' by Elias Tannenbaum. Very unique and progressive for the early/mid 70's. Has a sample of Charlie Parker in there too...

[/quote]

Actualy I grew up on Human League, OMD, Devo, Depeche , Joy Division, New Order ,Breakdance stuff before Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, SKinny Puppy, Severed Heads , then WARP, FAX, Rather Interesting then Mego and early electronics and experimental avant. I have also been know to have some KISS CDs! ha ha

I can second the APR ART release it is a cracker!

Just dug up Edmond De Destyer I am sure its not such a vintage release as claimed and sounds like Arps and Serge

Also the soundtrack for Andromeda Experiment is great I think that is 2600, maybe synthi

Thanks for all comments on this. Sorry for the late response.

The first track i heard was Biogenesis from 1973, and i was struck by the richness in sound and complex modulation and polyrythms. It was like nothing iv e heard before. Im thinking of going modular and im interested in some modules that can come close to the sound of Radique.

try these links to a clip from Biogenesis

http://auton.bandcamp.com/track/clip-from-biogenesis

Is any of you familiar with the Swiss company Technosaurus and the TRES triple resonator bandpassfilter?

http://www.technosaurus.ch/modules/tres.htm

Have also been playing around with Berna - Vintage Electronic Studio, and came close to some of Radiques sound. But this is software. I want hardware! Here i s a clip from a session with Berna

Im going through the thread and checking links and tips

thanks

The work of Eliane Radigue is the reason why I started working with sound...
At that time (something like 15 years ago) I have been extremely impressed by one of her performance. It was Kyema played in a baroque church. The diffusion of this beautiful piece was particuliarly enhenced by the acoustic of the space. :hail:
An idea : creating beautiful raw sounds of synth, avoiding digital simulation of space, then playing them in places with interesting acoustic for attentive audience !

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for chasing her ring mod sound?
The Oakley Ring Mod is scarce-are there any other ARP 2500 ring mod clones that nail it?
Thanks!

Suit and Tie Guy's "Post Lawsuit Filter" in euro (maybe 5U too) comes to mind.
I agree, I had that filter, sounds a lot like what Radigue was using

The 1047 filter of the ARP 2500 has been cloned by CMS Synthesizers:

http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/dsc/euro1.htm

I bought it immediately, it's the real thing (say, 80% of the real thing...) Check this thread!
viewtopic.php?t=193152&highlight=

Otherwise, reposting this list from yet another thread for Radigue lovers - the set-up of her own 2500, in the order the module were arranged:

1) ARP 1023 double VCO
2) ARP 1004T VCO
3) ARP 1023 double VCO
4) ARP 1047 multimode filter / resonator
5) ARP 1005 ModAmp
6) ARP 1046 Quad Exponential Envelope Generator
7) ARP 1016 Dual Noise/Random Voltage Generator
8) ARP 1006 FiltAmp
9) ARP 1005 ModAmp
10) ARP 1047 multimode filter / resonator
11) ARP 1050 mix sequencer
12) ARP 1027 Clocked Sequential Controller
ARP 2600, ARP Sequencer, EMS Synthi E, Waldorf Microwave XT, Korg z1, microKorg

Scarce? Krisp1 currently shows one ring mod in stock: Oakley Ring Mod by Krisp1

I bought mine from Krisp1 as "in stock" - and it was, shipped right away (love it by the way).

If you haven't bought any Oakley modules built by Paul (Krisp1), many wigglers here will attest to the outstanding build quality and attention to detail, just really good work (I have a half dozen and would buy from Krisp1 anytime).

Completely true.
That's the only one around though, and it's 89mm deep -

I have a case (Intellijet) and I'm trying to figure out if that's deep enough for it, but my MN skiff is certainly not

Oh shoot, right you are, I don't often post in the general forum and forgot that most folks are using Euro format, DOH!

Well, if you measure and find that it does fit, you can't (IMO) go wrong with the Oakley design. I only have two other ring mods to compare, but that said, the Oakley really is sweet, and not just for audio rate signals.....

Thanks, but if you look above, it's supposedly 89mm deep, not skiff or Intellijel case friendly-

I would love to snag one, but...

Seven years later and with the thread being necro'd, could the OP (who's still active) comment on which tips were helpful, or if they achieved their goal some other way?

I like the Wiard Omni Filter for those types of strongly resonant sounds that I associate most with Eliane Radigue. Incidentally, an early adopter (smoo, who also released the Wiard-mostly album "Traffic In My Soul" back then) said that the sound the Omni reminded him most of was ARP.
The Omni's resonance is very shimmering and a bit "pointy", not Moog-like at all and not as liquid & bouncy as Korg and the subsequent resonant lopass gates (Wiard Borg etc). It's also difficult to handle due to its dependance on sweet spots. But that particular shimmering sound is worth the effort.

Maybe we could pick one of these 2 threads to have this recent convo in, instead of spreading it across 2 threads? It's really confusing like this...

Ah sorry - missed that bit. Might be worth getting a little Doepfer Beauty Case for a few deeper modules.

I think my favorite of the Eliane recordings are the Adnos series. It's hard to remember which is which for me since they are all long and drawn out.

If there is any doubt that about the importance of ARP filters to her work.

I agree with Richard also, listening is just as important to her.
