Best cheap stereo mixer module?

Post by jpeterman » Sun Mar 29, 2020 7:24 pm

I'm looking for a stereo mixer module, which has 4-6 mono inputs and outputs the mix as stereo. Basically I want to avoid having to lug around my BOSS BX-600 as much as I love the thing. Bonus points if it can also mix CV signals.

The 6Mix was recommended to me by analoguehaven: http://www.happynerding.com/category/6xmix/

I'm a bit confused by it, particularly the configuration switches.

The doepfer mini stereo mixer:

The bastl dude seems alright but I really want to keep this within my rack and I also don't like the tiny knobs.

I'm going to suggest Ladik. Quality stuff at good prices, and there are quite literally a buttload (it's a scientific unit of measurement) of options.

Well, the switches just control whether the first two channels are mixed with the second two, and the second two with the third two... keeping them down will certainly give you a 6-channel mixer.

Not stereo, though. If you want stereo capabilites, like panning control and stuff, I guess you might want to take a look at the Make Noise X-Pan. Even if only to get a clearer picture of what you want and don't want.

I already have rosie, so if I use the two together i should have a stereo mixer essentially. Hmm...

I’d point you to this in case you’ve not already seen it: https://muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=154186

The linked analysis is very useful.

Personally I use X-Pan, along with a Worng Soundstage. The Paratek (https://www.modulargrid.net/e/paratek-% ... 0%A1-black - they have different colours) and Modulaire Maritime (https://www.modulargrid.net/e/modulaire ... ctor-alpha) are others I’ve been looking at to expand.

Since you posted this in general modular and not the euro specific forum, I'll suggest the Yusynth VC Panning Output Mixer. You can DIY it, so it's very affordable. I've got one in my MOTM 5U system (not the same design as pictured, I made my own)

It sounds like you would be more interested in the Happy Nerding PANMIX module:

I really like the design of Nearness. It also can be found in 2hp from some builders, or as a 6hp module with attenuators for each input. It's almost always the last module in my patches before hitting my audio interface. Really intuitive and quick to work with.

I'm using the Befaco STMIX. most amount of stereo inputs in a small form factor (6HP) 4 stereo inputs with level control, an extra aux in (unity gain). No bells and whistles, but works great, and it actually even sounds fine when clipping/overdriving, unlike what i've read from some other small format modules. That's pretty handy for recording and experimenting.

The Doepfer A-138s met my requirements. Four-in/2-out with volume and panning for each channel in 8hp. And the price is really nice at $90 new. I really love mine.
