Wear a cape, problem solved.

(Actually, have you noticed all the serious and puzzled musicians are the ones who don't have a cape? :hmm: )

I think it has more to do with concentrating very intensely in what is going on, that is fun actually, but it's not necessarily booty shakin fun...

I get that all the time in my day job - I'm a classical cellist, play in a symphony orchestra. Despite the fact that we do this every day, and it should be fun, it's still just enough serious work that having a smile on the face or whatever is a very low priority after getting all the other mechanical things happening correctly. Sure, I like to look like I'm having fun, which I basically am, but there's also some many other things to take care of doing correctly that quite often it looks like i'm just sitting there, bored or pissed off, which isn't really the case. I mean, it is sometimes, but usually not.

The "serious" look is just one of many. I'm a fan of "continuously variable expression" although I do tend to lean towards an emotional, slightly tearful embracing of my modular when I perform live. Sincerity and authenticity are the goals to strive for when presenting yourself to the public.

How are being serious and having fun mutually exclusive? I'm pretty sure you can have a good time without telegraphing your emotional state.

Also, I'd suggest that much of the look is due to concentration and working out what to do next.

be careful what you wish for! I bet that with some electrical muscle stimulation and a bit of VC hacking, this could be done. :tu:

Why yes. Yes they are. I'm just wondering what I'm doing in a room like this...

...this is getting serious...

Not restricted to modular... I always ended up looking serious when I was performing electronic music, due to sheer concentration.

I solved it by wearing a mask instead...

I try not to be in-frame when shooting modular videos, for obvious reasons. :zombie:
