i run into problems now, live 10 retail ( not beta)
never had this bevore:

FX plugins:
i have partial freezes, means some knobs are no longer accesible by the mouse/trackpad. otherwise the plugins still work
anybody else such problems ?

OSX 10.11.6 / latest Live10 i think
For sale / reduced prices ( swiss (we are NON-EU)/ in case it makes sense_ EU/WW)(CHF +- = $):
lowered prices: Dotcom Q960: 650.- / Q119: 420 / ( i also have one or much likely two 19" Frames)
ATV A-Frame incl. Accu and Bag: 830.-, like new, quasi unused.

IME Bitwig uses more CPU, the sandboxing of plugins seems to drive this up.

Nevertheless neither are the best at CPU use, Reaper is the one with the lowest CPU use.

thanks for the answer. yes, reaper is very lightweight - and super in most aspects, but imo it isn't fun, like bitwig.

I tried the new Wavetable synth in Live 10. In a blank project with nothing else in it, just playing a 3-note chord with a little modulation of the waveshape drove my CPU use to around 40% (dual core i7 macbook pro). Guess I won't be using much of that...

im interested to know if the midi timing has been improved as there will most certainly come a new update to fix the CPU any day now.

I don't notice any problems with MIDI timing. I think these reports come from people running Live on computers that aren't optimised for music making, with Wifi and bluetooth turned on, browsers in the background, antivirus garbage, software trying to check for updates, USB audio/midi interface etc...

I noticed it when I accidentally launched Firefox while Live was running: the clock immediately skipped.

Neither Mac nor Windows OSs, nor the USB 2 protocol are designed with MIDI clock accuracy in mind so you have to disable and quit as much stuff as possible (especially network related stuff) to ensure that the USB data gets enough priority. You can't have USB audio, or external hard drives or a mouse on the same USB bus as the MIDI interface, etc etc.

ok, thanks for the answer. :) i just feel like there havce been countless users complaining about midi latency/jitter with expernal hardware, while that has never been a problem with reaper/bitwig.

i still haven't gotten 10 yet. i'm probably going to pickup a cybermonday/black friday upgrade deal. my main interest is seeing if it interfaces well with Push 2 and has a better interface to mimic hardware synths.

Yes, I found this same issue the other day.
I think it was Unfiltered Audio Dent 2 that froze up.

Abelton 10

Post by Ikben » Thu Jul 05, 2018 1:52 pm

I recently purchased the Abelton 10 Live suite and started using it off and on. Originally I just wanted to add some "sound track" to short 3d films, but now want to learn more and hopefully start making some nice noises. The waveforms and new experimental modules look really interesting. Had to add a terabyte ssd to store all the available files though, so be prepared for that. :sb:

care to elaborate? calling something a gamechanger these days is a bit of an overused empty statement. not trying to be a jerk, just trying to encourage meaningful discourse.

The Push 2 integration is still not good enough, IMO. The step sequencers could be a lot better (maybe someday they will realize they need to ditch the stupid piano roll), native MIDI CC output is still not there and Live's Undo history still reports things like "MIDI Controller Action"... it's their own fucking hardware!

Maschine is still ahead on hardware/software integration and step sequencing / MIDI control, IMO.
