My first Synth was a Korg Poly 800. I must have been around 11 or 12 at the time, and still have it 25 years later. I remember being amazed at the cool helicopter noises it could make, which of course was all the encouragement I needed for endless poor attempts at re-creating the Airwolf intro.

My first synthesizer was a Korg Micro Preset back in 1978, made famous by the British electro-pop band Orchestral Manoevers in the Dark on their track "Enola Gay".

It was sold, along with all of my other gear, after I got married and had kids in the late 1980's.

a Virus C, excellent to start and had many ... interesting ... moments with it while discovering the psychedelic side of electronic music making  :hail:

was stolen from a friends apartment in the middle of the night... :waah:

My first synth was a software synth, but my first hardware synth was a Dave Smith Mopho about 4-5 years ago. Before that I used my friends microKorg alot, and that was my first real synthesizer experience. I also bought a Tetra to compliment the Mopho. Ended up selling both of them as I moved on to other things. Pretty good little synths for price to performance ratio, but when you taste some of the finer things in life...they tend to lose their luster. :)

Casio CZ-101, purchased secondhand in 1989.

I still have it and power it up occasionally.

I fondly remember how one of its keys got broken.

Korg Poly 800

Didn't really appreciate it at the time (I was 13 or so) and I didn't have (or even understand) any fx to fatten the sound up. Didn't keep it long, traded it for a bass guitar I think, then got back into synths etc years later.

My first synth was and Ensoniq SQ-1. It was the first thing in my life I bought that was over $1000, with money I earned and saved at the naive age of 19.

Not as cool as some of you guys with the "First Synth: Pro One" but it was a good synth to learn the basics and more importantly learn how to create & arrange electronic music with a multi-track sequencer. Don't miss it to be honest.

My first synth was a Korg "DW-6000"….purchased used in 1991. I still have it today and still use it occasionally….I could never sell it. I've been able to get some cool Drone textures that I still use today for my Ambient Soundscapes and SpaceMusic.

First Synth I bought was a Jen SX 1000 Synthetone and I grew to love it's unique lo-fi sound of the 12db Filter going on to modify it with an External Input.

Thought about modding it to have MIDI but the OSC is a digital chip and it cannot be controlled by a CV, so you would need to replace it at the compromise of it's original sound. However I still love this synth and glad I kept hold of it, it's a rocking piece of kit and still going strong.

Ive really enjoyed reading these!

I had an SK1 as a kid in the 80s. Sadly it went AWOL sometime in my teenage years. My first proper synth was a Yamaha AN1x, bought new from Digital Village in Croydon. Good synth to learn subtractive synthesis on. The manual is excellent. I still have it and use it as my main controller keyboard. The sounds are a bit thin but it still sometimes has its moments.

First analogue was an MC202 got from my mate in a complicated trade involving techno records in 1998. Still have it and use it loads. Not going anywhere!

ESQ-1! Ended up giving it to a high school kid who was interested in synths. His dad drove him to pick it up. He was so stoked.

I was never super keen on the synth itself, but it was a great way to pass it on.

Started with a Roland Gaia. Disliked it for a number of reasons and passed it on.

Got a Novation mininova last year, and have enjoyed it. Supplemented it with a Waldorf Streichfett, which complements it nicely.

A little over a month ago after delay and prevarication, I bought a Roland Jupiter 80 and have been in a mess of complex pads and delicious musical cheesiness since.

My first synth was a VCS3, with the DK2 keybaord, bought it in 1975 from Kennards Music in Canterbury Kent for £500. Played it through a Vox AC30.

Korg Delta, which was a string machine/synth with an awesome filter. Long gone now. It made awesome bass sounds, but I can't say that I miss it a whole lot.

Roland SH2 in 05 for me. Still got it, still use it, but at the moment, my main jams are my MS20 mini and my dotcom modular.

Ensoniq SQ1 Plus. That was my first real synth. Got it back in the early 90s and loved the sounds. Still have it!
