" Which of your various bands is this one?"
lol. this band is The Qualia (www.thequalia.com, www.thequalia.bandcamp.com). The new record (not out yet) has tons of euro on it but for live purposes the polygamist makes the most since for some analog fun at shows. as it's a mainly tonal pop act live i use a lot of vst's with a keybed for playing (both inexpensive and easy to replace if they fail) but for the sections we want to break things apart or sequence live, the polygamist is just beautiful for that.

"Hey chvad! Is anyone going to record your performance? I'd love to see the Polygamist in a live band setting. Good luck!"
thanks man! we'll def have someone recording the gig on the 19th so ill def post some video! might record a few rehearsals before then as well so if that happens ill share for sure. for the past few months i weened off my ion and ks4 as my main live synths to vst's (mostly massive) so the polygamist was purchased very intentionally for live use to keep a great degree of tactile control and some excitement at my finger tips. i can get descent sound out of the stuff like massive but it's just not as fun you know? unfortunately tonight we'll have no polygamist as it is in transit back from baltimore after karl made a few mods to it for me. dying to get it back so hopefully i can have it while visiting the family for the holidays!

Tempest and Polygamist. The Polygamist starts about 30 seconds in, I sequenced it with a MI MidiPal

The Polygamist just makes me smile to look at. It probably makes no sense for me to buy, but I kinda want to buy one, to goof around on for a month, then resell on to the next user. There is something ineffably adorable about the thing.

NB sold me his Polygamist. I'm very happy with it, pretty much obsessed with the thing to the point that he Buchla hasn't seen any action since it turned up!!

Its just really interesting, kind of simple in a way I suppose but its so much fun finding sounds with it. I think he did a really good job with it. Only thing that I keep thinking is that CV control over either attack or decay would of been good, particularly as the envelope goes into Audio rate.

Quick (noise) Demo

not to give any BIG hopes.... but ive heard rumor that this might be an optional MOD down the road.....

my polygamist will be making its live debut on stage this friday... she's a tough beast to contain but here's to hoping we can put her into some pop songs successfully!

It would be cool, but its by no means an issue without it. Its a great tweakers synth.

Good luck with the gig.

Ah shit did you get nelsons? I very nearly mailed to see if you wanted to split shipping with his schritty in the box too- I can't work out whether I'm gutted or relieved I didn't! Enjoy!

I've been really intrigued by the Polygamist since I saw it announced for pre order awhile back, but I went a different direction. This thing still interests me as a balance between a noise box and a proper synth, how is the build quality?

Yeah, its like the bestest properist most sorted noise box ever, it can do synth stuff very well too, but its great for noise. Which is good, as I prefer noise!
Build quality is really nice, its solid and feels great. I think he did a very good job.

Thanks for posting Dan! Your video is much more than random noise. In fact, it's probably one of the best Polygamist videos I've seen online so far.

I'm looking forward to Karl building me one this year.

What awesome instruments!! So many unique functions. Looks really well built quite a boutique craft. The first time I saw one it reminded me of 'The Game of Life'. All it needs is a random spin wheel...

Jeez, this thing looks like so much fun...the choices for synth nerds these days are truly overwhelming. Everyday I find something new to obsess over that I don't really need and certainly cannot afford. :help:

I saw on Karl's facebook page that the first 5 of the new Polygamists were shipped out in late March.

Anyone get one? How are you digging it?

Oh, and hello!

Will try to record some demos here shortly, that being said, this machine is intense. Awesome pulsating and fm sounds, I feel you have to work to calm it down too. I'm still not totally familiar w it, but my initial impression is very impressed, and I am exited to dig deeper. Only a few hours w it so far, but I'll repost when I figure more out. Also, plays real well w the euro.
