Thanks Chvad. That kind of makes getting a Maths an easier call since it has slew as well as envelopes.

I recommend that you stop calling it a 'beast', and it will become a lot easier.

Give me a few more days with mine and I will put something up. Unfortunately it will be shot with my iPhone.

I'm happy have made the pre-order list along with a few of you. While researching a ribbon controller I stumbled upon the Polygamist. While there are only 4 videos (that I could find) a handful of demos floating around the Internet, I think I fell into a little Polygamist lust. Beautifully designed too...

If any of you owners have more to say about this instrument, I'm all ears. I usually read up on and hear more sounds before buying a synth but I went with my intuition on this one. Last time I went with my intuition about an obscure synth (the Wretch) it was definitely the right choice.

I guess "the Polyamorist" was taken? ;)

Thanks pelican.

I was able to find "Polygamist normal". I dig it! Transposition of the sequence by ribbon is a nice features. I see you are selling (or sold) one? Didn't gel with it in the long run?

I got pelican's Polygamist.

Smokey, I absolutely love it. There are some confusing aspects to the synth at times, thankfully Karl is awesome and he helped me get unstuck. The VCA is a design that I was unfamiliar with, Karl said it is based off of an ARP type of VCA. Later today I will go ahead and post part of a really helpful email I got from Karl because it could help some newer owners in the future.

Bottom line is that i haven't had this much fun with a synth in awhile. The sound is lively to say the least.

I was having problems "getting the envelope to close and/or gating the VCA", at least that is what I thought. The first paragraph in the response from Karl is what helped me fix my "issue" (lack of understanding the VCA on the Polygamist in reality.

Anyways, here you go, Karl wrote:
This is actually a pretty common question, the answer could be two
things - one of them is that i've made "arp style" vca controls; The
"initial volume"-control could be thought about as a "drone volume", it
sets the lowest amount of sound that will *always* come out of the VCA.
If this is set to max, the volume will *always* be at max unless you
input a negative CV into it.

The other thing that sometimes confuses people is the ridiculous range
of the ADSR, you may already have noticed though that it's *very*
sensitive on the attack/decay/release settings. The shortest duration
here is 0.5mS and the longest is somewhere at 4-8 minutes.

So to make the gate work correctly, remove all patch cords. Under "more
ribbon controller controls" flip the "send ribbon low and ribbon gate
to" to "VCO1 / Master Gate". Now, whenever you touch the ribbon it
should trigger the ADSR. Monitor the square LED on the ADSR and set it
to instant attack, full sustain and immediate release.

Now go to the VCA, turn the "initial amplitude" to zero and turn the
"amplitude modulation [adsr]" to max. For easiest testing, set "in level
1 [VCF]" to zero and "in level 2 [Tilt]" to max.

If this doesn't work, just e-mail me and we'll figure it out!
The second part of the answer helped me realize some more sounds for sure. The Polygamist is so cool, it can be a drone machine, it can sound like Brass and Bass, I have heard other people get string like sounds, it is easy to get ever-evolving sounds from it (so much LFO routing!!!), and a ton more that I don't even know yet I am sure.

No, i really liked it. Just need some other gear more for bread and butter to cover my bases before i branch out to the wild polygamist. If i made more money i would have kept it, and if i get a better job in the future i will buy another one

Today the Polygamist was mentioned in the Sonicstate podcast and one of the guests played it for a couple of seconds at the end of the show.

The podcast should get uploaded to youtube in some some hours of tomorrow.

It´s making its rounds.

I have a few on youtube as well, recorded with my iPhone, so the sound isn't great. Search Dustin Colyer.

It'll be on stage dec 19th. I'll post videos and stuff after the gig. We're a synth pop/ rock band so it' won't be all jacked out on noisy stuff but there will be a fair number of parts sequenced with it that you can hear.

Hey chvad! Is anyone going to record your performance? I'd love to see the Polygamist in a live band setting. Good luck!
