Art, love, and hate! A commentary on fetishizing old synths?

Those vocals are the crooning equivalent of mumble rap.

Can't say whether it's pro or anti Korg etc., but it's definitely anti human beings.

I think the whole thing is obnoxious. Classic 1st year uni stuff. They probably had fun though.

Totally agree!

Oh man, come out to LA before I leave my native city and I can show this but worse x10.

Trust fund kids that don't know how to clean dishes. Check

The pun based tired humor usually associated with smart-ass 14 year olds being regurgitated by people in their late thirties onward. Check

People who think being genuine is boring and unnecessary. Check

Destroy unique neighborhoods by trivializing and them commodifying culture. Oh yeah double check and somehow par for the course within the past 10 years. This has nothing to do with infrastructure, in fact usually it means accessibility is much worse.

The worst part is how much is recycled and reinforced though. A group of people who become entirely homogenous and predictably cyclical in the realm of art is a real shame. Really hope I'm wrong, but it seems like the internet is seeping into real life more and more.

The best part of LA imo is everyone who isn't what is touted as LA culture. So many good people, so many struggles that have meaning that none the rest of the country will hear about.

Never, ever gotten bad vibes from the synth community here though.

Rant over. Much synth love to everyone!

Thing is, whatever it is, I’ve seen it done before only much much better

The blame lands squarely on their shoulders though, not art schools. You don’t get much more art school than Brian Eno after all, and he’s a highly vocal advocate of synthesis

Don’t hate on them, save that for the real villains. Just ignore them and they’ll go away

I never thought posting this video would evolve into rants about trust fund kids not being able to clean dishes. I just found the price that they were selling their broken juno for on reverb to be hilarious - $389.53. I know that price seems high for a synth soaked in acetone, stuffed into a toilet and sawed into tiny pieces, but remember this is the legendary juno 106 we're talking about here!

Destroying something that has worth while so many have so little is, at best, insensitive. They look like a bunch of true idiots.

I'll give them five dollars and a half-eaten burrito for it.

Looks like they've gotten 29 other offers, maybe the burrito will win them over though.

 I'll take back the whole thing if a trust funder comes by and does mine AND doesn't wax poetic about rugged individualism.

That video is clearly pro-stupid and pro-annoying. I couldn't even watch it all the way through.

The extreme reaction to the video and auction is interesting/surprising/weird. Synths are luxury goods, no one needs one to survive (or even make music, for that matter). They own it, they can do what they want with it. No one is more deprived after they smashed theirs. People have also been smashing instruments since the dawn of time, why is this any different? I can't help but think people would be less weirdly conservative about this if it wasn't some "vintage" piece but just a casio or whatever.

Obviously this is an attempt at viral marketing and likely the band members of that tepid ensemble have posted that listing on various forums with titles like “look at this shit!” or something more oblique like the title of this thread to get people to visit their YouTube channel like we all have.

Blair Witch managed to be a better movie (based on the trailer) than that track is a song.

Thank you mods for removing the offensive commentary by Red Electric Rainbow. Demeaning personal attacks have no place here. We all have the right to post videos like this here. This isn't twitter.

This!! This video was likely made in like 2005 or so. It looks like the hipster era of when I was a college student at least. Check out the video image quality and the resolution on youtube. They probably bought the synth for like $80 at a pawn shop and it had like 5 voice chips out. The value was probably not nearly high in value as it is today and they probably didn't know anyone who could fix it. Even if it was, like Sir Ruff mentioned, I seem to have hit a sensitive spot by posting it. Maybe that rise in reaction was their point? I personally didn't expect these reactions when I posted the video but then again I had no idea what to expect.
