Yeah I feel the Prophet 10 is the right way to go. I'm not a fan of my notes being cut off when I don't want. And for the price, the Prophet 10 is a steal comparatively. Man, what a glorious time it to be a synth lover. This F-ing rocks :sb:

Desktop P5 is also planned!
Is this a fact? Where did you hear this one...
One of the Sequential employees mentioned this on another forum that a desktop is planned for the future. A desktop version is also indicated in the Sequential Circuits product comparison matrix.
usually I´d go with the desktop version for space reasons, but in this case the "classic" factor push me to keyboard...I think this is a side effect of approaching 50
It's fucking glorious. Perfect midlife crisis gift imho.

Anyone spotted anything anywhere about upgrading from 5 to 10 via adding the second board later?
No. Their employees keep not answering that question for some reason, on GS at least. Many have asked but no clarification thus far.
the board seems to be quite small, with no voice cards at sight...you can see it in the Sequential presentation video when Dave is playing a prototype with the case open...of course this means nothing and I don´t have idea why I´m telling this in response to the upgrade doubt :hihi:

anyway, maybe by don´t say nothing about the possibility of a future expansion they push people to buy the P10 in the first go, while the news are still hot and everybody have their hands on the wallet...if you know there will be an expansion later I bet a lot of people would considere this option instead of go for the P10 now

Why do they all insist on this tiresome Nostalgia instead of innovating.
1. Dave Smith has resisted 1-for-1 remakes and instead designed new synths for almost 20 years (the Evolver desktop came out in 2002).
2. The "nostalgic" stuff sounds damn good, and I'm glad it is being remade.
3. Plenty of innovation going around...some of it fairly cheap. It's an amazing time for synths, compared to what was available 20 years ago.
agreed. DSI has delivered a lot of great modern products and pushed the market that way. But it’s really hard to deny how amazing the P5 sounds. And we are so fortunate to have the original designer managing the new version. I doubt they cut even one tiny corner.. Dang, now I want it again. Talked myself down last night..

I became in September 33 the 11th time, so I preordered one

As soon as you unbox it, smell it, connect it and play it the first time, I believe I will not regret one dime I paid for it. The same with the Minimoog and ARP2600 reissues.

yeah - so glad I jumped and got the ARP 2600 FS earlier this year - I adore it. The P-5 was the other synth I'd always lusted after .... so I guess I'll have to do it ! What a time to be alive !

Seriously don’t know how anyone couldn’t like this unless they were a total wanker. It’s one of the only modern polys that really sounds vintage, way more vibey and reliable than a moog one or something with tuning problems and it’s coming from a company with tegrity you can feel good about supporting.

This is the only time I’ve ever preordered a new expensive synth, I always wanted a prophet 10 that wasn’t a 100lbs and massive.

Don’t care about the lack of bitimbrality, when I had prophet 10s I always put it in 10 voice mode, 10 voices is where it’s at!

I'm sure these will find their way into many a studio and man caves from Alaska to Dubai. And collectors and nostalgics will cherish the wood.. Yes - I'm gonna say it: Woody synths are hideous. :hihi: It does sound fantastic though, but I'll much rather have a Prophet XL with it's sequencer, fx's and 50 GB of additional sample storage and.. negligible amounts of wood ;-)

Same. It was neat to have two voices and two different beds but I almost always did 10 voice mode. I do wish they had the onboard EQ again, I did enjoy using that a bit as well, albeit unnecessary.

I've got a Rev 3.3 original and I would highly recommend the 10 voice. I'm always paying attention to voice allocation for pads and such. Especially for the price difference I'd say it's totally worth it. The only reason they made it with 5 voices is for historical accuracy.

I´d love to have a stereo mode with the 10 voices card...yeah, bac kto 5 voices but man, this would sound glorious

Or maybe just pan spread, but I don´t think it´s possible since the voice mix/out is mono...or maybe it´s a stereo one working as mono, just waiting for a frimware upgrade?

The unison with detunable voices also claim for stereo spread!

Hope it'll be delivered end of Octobre. Not like the ARP2600 6 months later.

What I hope for is a ReIssue of Prophet 5 but I guess it will never happen (I have a Prophet 6 - close but not the same as a P5 ReIssue).

You have to admire his professionalism. He comes off as very confident, not in a braggadocios way, in the video. It was rather nice to hear him talk about what he accomplished with the original.
