SSM2044 filters would sound better
SSM2044? No. That was never used in the classic Prophet series.
Pulse width is deffinetly a destination in poly mod on prophet 6... Not sure what he is talking about but one of the destinations is pulse width of oscillator 1.

according to this link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CEM_and ... nthesizers
the Prophet-5 Rev 1 & 2 had 5x SSM2040 VCF's (some people say the Prophet 5 Rev 1 & 2 sounded better) The Rev 3 version switched to cheaper Curtis chips and sold more because of the price drop.

If they get this right (maybe add the missing Pulse Width in Poly-Mod destinations through a bit of menu diving?), I'll go for this over Prophet-6.
I didn't notice that the poly-mod section neglected pulse width, good observation. Defiantly want this.

Yeah, I've seen these go for 150. Has to be one of the cheapest good analogs out there.

Shoot, I didn't realize they were *that* cheap. Now I'm scouring eBay/reverb for a nice EX-800 ($250-ish buy it now on ebay). Never thought about buying one before. I'm so easily led. :hihi:

Oh God, have mercy, I hope no one ever makes a clone of Korg Poly 800 - it would be worse than a corona pandemic. But a Korg Ps 3200 would be the opposite.

Which is too damn high.

These things were usually 150, sometimes sub 100. They aren't getting any younger but even cheap shit is going up in price.

No, that's not what I was referring to. It was a Korg PS 3200, that's a $15,000 synth

I was mistaken on the price. Some are around $250 on eBay or lower in the recent sold history. In either case, my point is that you wouldn't save much/anything to by a clone instead of the the original. And as you point out, the originals are going up in price, perhaps making them the better buy.

I guess/hope that the Pro 800 is not a Korg Poly 800 (it would be pathetic) but a SCI Prophet 600 or something in that direction - the layout is about the same as Prophet 600. I guess they are somewhere about $1500 to $1800 right now. It’s a great synth but a little bit to high as it’s not the top of the line of what SCI made back in heydays.

A P5 clone would be awesome but a P600 clone is not a bad consolation prize.

Honestly, I would apply the same logic to the P600 and think the $1200-1500 I see is a fair price compared to the DSI line and a minor premium to own an original. What would put me off it is already having enough keyboards as well as nicer vintage toys. But Behringer stuff intrigues me, even while the idea of owning a bunch of it depresses me. :hihi: As I think I said before, A cheap 3U analog synth with patch memory offers something a little unique, in that I don't want to drag those vintage toys for the abuse of a live show, which for me is just an unpaid 20-minute set played to a teensy audience. I agree there is no reason to pick a P600 over a P5, except that a P5 isn't specifically mentioned as making its way down the pipeline (yet).

But just as the Behringer Pro-1 got me shopping for the real deal, the Pro 800 has me shopping DSI Prophet 08's now to fill the above need I state (portable, analog, patch memory) with something quite similar from the original designer.

I have a wish list for the Pro-800

• Add the Missing Pulse Width Modulation destination in the Poly- Mod section
 • Add Pitch Drift and instability
 • Separate Mixer Knobs for OscA, OscB & Noise.
 • Mixer Overdrive
 • Faster, smoother VCA & VCF envelope generators.
 • A 2nd LFO for vibrato (when your using the main LFO for Poly Mododulation}
 • New waveforms for the LFO with a wider range.
 • Unison detune.
 • Non-Stepping Filter
 • Global CV inputs for Pitch, VCF, VCA and LFO modulation amount
 • Static Stereo panning for each voice
• Replace Membrane switches with buttons that work (might already be this way)

Take a close look at the second board. That’s clearly laid out like it has EIGHT full voices. I’m going to guess that’s why they’re calling this a Poly800 instead of a 600.
To me a full voice [for the Prophet 600] includes two oscillators. The Parody "Poly" does not include both oscillators per voice found in the Modeled D.
Both oscillators? Per Voice? Doesn't sound like a minimoog model d to me. The poly D was a paraphonic 4 osc Model D similar to a mono-poly

Let's face the facts.
Behringer teases us with promises about classic polys.
But all we have now - only monos.
(that are hell easier to create and calibrate)

Maybe something went wrong with their poly tryouts ?
Still no working prototype.

The choice of P600 to clone to me is obvious.
P5 is more difficult to match sonically.
So, if they will produce shit, it's easy to match it with mediocre P600.
(slow envelopes, muddy sound etc.)
P600 is only known as it was the first synth with midi afaik.

Sorry if I offended someone with this statement.
But.... in the end.... if they will price this synth around 500-600 USD,
it still would be a great buy.

It's not a clone of a classic.
So hard to match to anything and compare the vibe factor.
But.... as someone already compared to JUNO-60... a bit not in the same league sonically.
But... still... a nice buy.

True, just stating that they have successful Poly experience. Let's see if they can bring it to the eurorack compatible 'classics format' indeed. I for one would welcome it.

Polykobol clone after the Pro 800 pretty please.

True, but it's not a straight clone, more an 'inspired by' or clone+ if you will.
