Hordijk modular soundtrack

Post by Adze » Sat Jul 09, 2016 12:08 pm

Video is made from an old family 8 mm footage recorded in Vienna, probably in 1979.
I hope you will enjoy it.

That's fantastic :yay:

Would love to know some details of how you made it - Hordijkb set up, sequencing, how many tracks etc.

The film's also great - that opening shot :woah:

Thanks a lot Sundog!
If I remember correctly it was one stereo track and four mono tracks.
Patch is rather simple, the rungler is going to the mini matrix to multiply the signal, first signal is controlling the envelopes and the second signal is going to the twin peak filter input. Both curves of the TP filter were in the bandpass mode with peaking knob somewhere around three quarters. Triple LFO is modulating cutoff. More or less it was all about the rungler and the TP filter, with no oscillators used at all. For "animated" noise in the background i used Modcan vca panner. Valhalla vintage verb is added on Cubase stereo out.

Yeah, nice and interesting sound design. Was this pretty much "generative" then or was some human interaction required?

Please forgive me, I am still learning the ropes, having only bought my first system a couple of weeks ago, so every now and then I will probably ask a silly question.

cheers

Thanks for the kind words!
Andy, this was 90% "generative", with some twin peak filter and the rungler tweaking.
This was very first thing I did with my Hordijk modular, it is just so intuitive.
I just love this system!

Thanks for the info :)

As much as I have in my system at the moment, I've struggled to get anything anywhere near a nice generative patch. I think I have enough sound sources so I think it's more utilities that I need, probably on of the more expensive multi units, like a quad ADSR or something.

cheers

It is possible to make nice generative sequences with the rungler and a quantizer.
I don't know much about eurorack modules, but I am pretty sure there is a huge choice of modules which you could find interesting.
My system is Modcan B, Hordijk, MOTM, Macbeth (and some other stuff), if I can help you with some of these feel free to ask.
For me the rungler is essential, that's why I got the second one.

Amazing marriage of imagery and sound. It's like a sequence from some long forgotten dream... Or it was memory? Or both? Love it!

Thanks :)

I think my main problem at the moment is, after buying the Doepfer BS2 plus a couple of other modules I'm now having to hold onto the old purse strings a while. I'd love to spend all my hard earned cash on more modules but I have other priorities at the moment.

I'll certainly be checking out the rungler :D

cheers

That was really great!

Cool sounds. I really liked the huge monsters near the end of the video.

Thanks for the nice words, and thanks to the amazing Rob Hordijk for making such an inspiring instrument :hail:
