After roughly four years, I’ve finally assembled my completed Buchla 200 clone system. It’s been a journey and this leg has finally reached its conclusion. Now to embark on what I’m hoping is a lifetime of learning and music making using this synth.

There’s still a few things I’ll probably want to do with this system but they are small and minor. A few bug fixes and tweaks and maybe a few minor cosmetic changes. But nothing substantial.

I really have to make a few thank yous though. There’s a few people who really made this system possible and a reality.

Mike McGrath. I wish you were here to see this system. Thanks for answering so many of my questions, the fun shows together, the modules, and for connecting me with the people who’ve helped me along the way.

Josh Starkey. Thanks for always being a great musician-mate, lending me the 208r to get me started, the patch inspiration, and for connecting me with others that have made this possible.

Steffen Ahmad. Thanks for building the beautiful case that holds this system together and the wires that pump its blood.

Adam Scramstad. Thanks for building my first set of modules, helping me out with the early stages of this system, and always being so friendly.

Mike Peake. Thanks for building the latter half of my modules, for always keeping me up to date on all of the details of the builds, for all of the tough debugging, for impeccable attention to detail, and for your dilligence.

Dave Brown. Thanks for the debugging help and for all of your absolutely essential mods to get these modules running just the way they should.

Mark Verbos. Thanks for the 288v and taking the time to get it right.

^ Only thing that could make that look more amazing and seems missing is a 227 system interface

Yes, the 227 is the most obvious omission in my system. I agree that it would absolutely make my system look more amazing.

I left the 227 out with intention. I love quadrophonic audio but, unfortunately, I just don't have the room for it in my studio. On top of the physical space practicalities, releasing music in quad is difficult and most people can't reproduce the recordings in a meaningful way anyways. With that in mind, I instead opted for two 207s which gives me ample output mixing functionality and saves me two units of space compared to the 227.

If my situation were different, it's entirely possible I would have included a 227. Maybe if I move somewhere with more space, that can happen in the future. But also, I couldn't imagine what I would trade out of my system to accommodate it.

Those meters though. They look so nice!

I’m sure you could find 4 spaces in there. Dual eq/reverb and one 207 would become redundant and be most obvious. Then maybe the 245 since you have the 246 plus a marf...

My current Serge rig, STS Animate shop panel with some Random*Source EuroSerge; and a Metasonix TM-1 stompbox for added flavour.

And it’s done... 4 boats of paperface joy. Some built by me, and some amazing work from Loudest Warning/The Bad Producer. Thanks to Cygmu for amazing tech spirit guiding during some of the builds and to Dmitri as well for the inspiration. Also to Clockgate, as I probably wouldn’t have built this if it hadn’t been for his astonishing Edelweiss/VV3 vid!

Do you use a separate 15v power supply for the Haible Frequency Shifter? I’ve been wanting to add mine to a 4u case, but I haven’t come up with a good power supply solution. I’ve successfully used it with 12v, but I don’t believe it sounds quite the same.

Yeah, I’m using two supplies - one for the Haible, and another for everything else else.

That was the old (so happy that the system changed hands but still stayed together as a complete set) and this is the current sort of thing:::
