258e DEMOS: HARD PAN RAW 01 (AUDIO) x many

Post by djangosfire » Thu Sep 08, 2016 2:05 pm

------ BTW ----- I will use this same post for the next few examples - Thank you! - Adam

- one other note about these audio examples.... the Soundcloud encoding is without a doubt adding a sort of "HF aliasing" to these uploads.... I am working to try other recording formats... but do be sure, the original recordings on my computer are solid and clear... and full! - SO please keep in mind, although not perfect.. I do hope at the very least, you get the idea of what is possible from this VCO. Thank You! - Adam

OK - time for some good, clear examples of this 258e module I am testing out for a friend.

258e DEMO HARD PAN RAW 01: .....the signal was recorded a bit "hot" - I'll watch my levels closer for the next few posts :)

- 258e hard panned
- VCO 1 (Saw) left
- VCO 2 (Square) right
- each VCO patched through a 292e combo LPG
- Sequence is the ARP from a 218e
- the 218e PVS is transposing... via 254e
- some manual filter sweeping
- along with a 281e slow triangle wave (via 254e again for CV processing)

Direct to my laptop audio interface - no edits.

More to come.

258e DEMO HARD PAN RAW 02:

I saved 10x presets to the 206e, each preset has the 258e VCO’s tuned to different intervals (just a few random ones, quickly by ear) … then I manually scrolled through the 10x different presets - as I would try each preset, sometimes I would just manually adjust the pitch via the 218e.. other times I would apply an ARP from the 218e - very random, to show the ease at which we can apply fast changes in 200e system.

I am only testing this VCO, no I am not building this. It is not being built by Buchla/BEMI - it is a 3rd party (Doug CL) that is currently designing this 258e. It does however, work as it should inside a 200e "preset" scenario.

Should prove to be a great addition to any 200e system... and in fact, I hope it inspires more people to explore and buld 200e systems - as having another choice of VCO to use alongside the already awesome 259e/261e.... well its very exciting!

I am looking forward to the aesthetics of the final module - hopefully a hybrid between the e and 200 series. I presume we are talking full analog audio gen circuit except for digital encoders/controls with CPU?

It this a collaboration with Malekko, Verbos? Any idea if Doug is launching this and the 254e as a short run or as regular run of modules?
Beatniks and Bongos/Bagels and Bongos/Buchlas and Bongos...

de gustibus....

The final details of the aesthetics are in process - I will say that that even at this stage, the design is beautiful IMHO... and original.

Yes, full analog signal path and circuit - with digital control of the controls.

This is all Doug CL's idea and design. As to how many he builds/sells - or if there are more in the works - that remains to be seen, I don't know. BUT I do know he does have the 254e complete - might be worth sending him a message if you want one. I have one... and it always seems to sneak into my patches :)

Cheers!
- Adam
