Reverse pedal - non-delay

Post by mallarme » Sat Dec 10, 2016 10:26 am

Just wondering if that exists. A pedal that outputs the signal in reverse immediately, not after a delay.

Anyone? Anything?

Since it's physically impossible, no

Short and sweet, I like it, thanks.

Here are some things that can get you pretty close:

1. Reverse delay with a super short delay time set to 100% wet
2. Reverse reverb set to 100% wet (will be washy of course)
3. Auto-swell effect. It doesn't reverse the signal but if you learn to work with it you can give the impression of reverse signal--basically if you just let it swell with a slow attack and cut off the note with no release.

Boss's old RPS10 half rack pitch shifter/delay has a reverse pitch shift mode, which can be set to produce zero pitch shifting, but there's still something like a 40ms or something delay.

Someone once said:
"If you dont want delay on the reverse function of the dd7 just turn the level all the way up, and the delay time and feedback all the way down. "

The Red Panda Particle does reverse delay as well as a myriad of other, whacky delay tricks. It is a wonderful pedal.

The Ensoniq DP4 + had a great reverse, you can buy one for cheap and modulate with a pedal.

Wow some snarky comments... I've had the same idea as OP and think it could be accomplished with some sort of always-on audio buffer. You'd be playing and it would be silently recording. When you press the button, the buffer will play back what you just played in reverse. I might try to build something like that one of these days.

There's software that does something like what the OP is asking for, real-time buffer capture and reverse, but a buffer is still a delay. Niall Moody's Reversinator will take an incoming signal and play back a fixed buffer in reverse.

http://www.niallmoody.com/ndcplugs/reversinator.htm

But, if ABCDEFGH goes in, you'll get BADCFEHG coming out because it can only reverse in chunks since it can never know when the input ends to deliver the sequence. Here's an example to illustrate the issue:

phrase
phrase in reverse
phrase reversinated
phrase reversinated in reverse

The last one highlights really well how the effect works, chunks of reversed audio. Fun effect, especially good on sounds going in that are roughly the buffer size (drums, single notes), but as previous comments have stated, there are physical restrictions for anything more.

I use memory man with hazarai for reverse. Of course it's not real time but the tap tempo gives u some control of it. And it can do loong takes.

The auto-volume echo mode on the DL4 might get you close to what you're looking for.

Maybe semantics is the cause for the previous snarky (but completely correct) comments. Reversing audio always requires a delay of some sort, because otherwise the device is magically predicting the future. But maybe the OP meant reverse without multiple echoes, in which case you can usually turn the feedback all the way down (and mix up to 100% wet) on a reverse delay to get only one repeat.

The digitech polara reverb has a reverse setting that has just a slight delay. The new line of digitech stuff is actually pretty damn cool..

Also the Digitech XP300 Spacestation does this. program 10 on it--basically it works like a tape: fully rocked back it plays everything in real time--as you sweep the pedal down, it slows down until about halfway--it stops--then it reverses. fully rocked forward, you have reverse guitar.
