Looks great!
Time to figure out what enclosure and power would be best.
I would prefer this as a standalone desktop unit.
Does anyone have some good suggestions?

Cheers!

Perhaps it could be worked into one of these? They're attractive and fit the retro nature of the drum machine.
https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/small-case/chassis

Moog does a 60HP Eurorack desktop case which would give you an extra 12HP to fit in a power supply and switch (and maybe MIDI if you can figure out how to do that).

I think I'm going to go with a Pittsburgh Cell 48. Perfect Width. Power sorted. Nice on / off switch. Sweet cheeks. Analogue Haven still has some in stock.

I've been looking for the Cell 48 but can't find any in Europe.

@ grenert
The Hammond 1441-16BK3CWW should work.

Hello

If it was not that I'm waiting for the foamed transport boxes,
all kits should leave today.

I must admit I ordered them rather late.

All kits are ready to be packed in the boxes.

If the foamed boxes do not arrive by next Monday, I'll pack your kits in Mouser boxes (I have plenty of them), or I go buy some post office boxes and fill them with some foam.

Appologies for the inconveniences this may cause.

B rgds,
Boogie.

As no boxes have been delivered till early afternoon
and I didn't want to wait till Monday, I bought some.
Not with the foam as I intended, but I stuffed them with bubble plastic.

ALL PACKAGES ARE READY
and will leave Saturday june 16th.

Finally finished my build tonight! Check out the sweet beats with some help from the Chronoblob delay!

Also - MANY thanks to Boogie for all of his help. In my initial build I put the euro header on backwards and fried ( :ripbanana: ) the poor Cell 48's power supply.

Boogie helped coach me through the whole debugging process and now things work perfectly. Super happy with how it sounds! Can't wait to record some jams with it!

Also - shout out to Michael at Pittsburgh who fixed the power supply board for the price of shipping and sent some free patch cables along too!

Great to see this video
I'm glad it worked out fine.
Even your first video is using External Clocking. Excellent :bananaguitar:

Nice to see the effort I put in was worth it.

Have lot's of fun with your new tool. (toy 8-) )

Great news kreiff!!
Glad you got it solved.
I haven't soldered anything yet. I'm waiting for a Cell 48 myself.

I know I was one of the guys who promoted for external sync/clock but how does it work?
For now I only have midi, din sync24 and a sequencer (Engine)that has cv and gate but no dedicated analog clock.

Cheers!

In my experience so far the external clocking works really well. We were jamming with it for a couple hours last night and didn't have any issues with it falling out of sync. It was rock solid.

I do have a dedicated clock in my modular system (4MS Quad Clock Distributor) - but I see no reason why you couldn't use a scratch track on the Engine with gates for every beat to clock it.

See the below video - I have a Squarp Pyramid - which is very similar to the Engine in that it has gate outs - In the video I just set up a CV/Gate track with beats on all 16 steps and the gates act as a clock and trigger on every beat.

I've completed my build and tuned using the recently updated instructions.

The instructions explain how the tunable instruments can be triggered in a special tuning mode activated by pressing rhythm buttons 1 and 2 together for about 3 seconds. Unfortunately, the instructions do not identify which button then sounds which instrument. Trial and error indicates the following:

RED CHANNEL
SW5 - Claves
SW7 - Guiro
GREEN CHANNEL
SW1 - Bass Drum
SW4 - Cow Bell Low
SW5 - Bongo Small
SW6 - Bongo Large
SW7 - Conga
SW8 - Rim Shot

I wasn't able to identify Cow Bell High....

The momentary nature of the percussion sounds meant that it was impossible to tune using the frequency counter mode on my Multimeter. I found that the best way to tune was by using a free function generator app on my iPad to generate the appropriate frequency and then to tune by ear.

hello jaidee

When I updated the assembly manual I didn't have access to all data.
But here it is.

The cowbell only has 1 trigger and both frequencies are one sound.
I realise it's very difficult to tune the high and the low without an oscilloscope or other kind of analyser.
The high tone decays very fast and is there to create the feelig of the stick hitting he bell.
Using a soundcard audio analyser may help, using the tip of a jack to probe the sound at the points marked in the pictures below.
ImageImage

Here are the switch vs instrument.
Put balance to 50%

Green channel
button1 BassDrum
button2 SnareDrum_1
button3 SnareDrum_2
button4 CowBell
button5 Bongo_Small
button6 Bongo_Large
button7 Conga
button8 RimShot

Red Channel
button1 HiHat
button2 Tambourine (open the slider to hear it)
button3 Cymbals_1
button4 Cymbals_2
button5 Claves
button6 Quijada (open the slider to hear it)
button7 Guiro (open the slider to hear it)

I'll update the manual with the above data.

Good luck !

Ah! That makes sense! I had the same experience as Jaidee and was a little confused about the "high cow bell" sound / trim pot, but to be honest - I didn't find that I even had to use the "high cow bell" trim pot to get an accurate sound.

I just ended up calibrating everything by ear based on the samples provided on the Nabla Instruments site in the updated manual. (Ref: http://nabla-instruments.com/index_htm_ ... Sounds.mp3)

I found that it was easiest to use Ableton and create a loop for each instrument and just tune it until it sounded like the sample. The instruments are basically in order from left to right in the sample track - in correlation with the button triggers (i.e. Bass Drum is the first sample and is correlated with button 1).

I felt like it was actually pretty easy to calibrate. MUCH easier than getting 8 octave tracking from a VCO at least :hihi:

By instructions, do you refer to the manual found kind of hidden on page 9 of the original thread (Version 1.02)?
Or is there a newer one somewhere??

Boogie actually sent a new version of the manual (same format as the old thread) out via email on 7/12. The current version is 2.02. I'm sure if you PM him he would be able to send it along.

Ok. Thanks!
Must have missed that, I know I got the quick start (V1.0) in a mail when he sent out the kits.

No more excuses, case is in and I'm gonna start soldering.

Not sure if I will use the Cell 48's innards. It converts 12AC to 12VDC and I don't have a 12V AC adapter. It's easier to get a DC adapter anyway.

Qustions:
Is the MiniP7 rippel sensitive?
A stabilized 15V DC switching adapter has about 150mV rippel, that seems alot.
In my DIY days I always built linear PSU's with much less rippel.

Are both 12V/15V headers used? I guess so since I got 2 and there's places for them.

I need a "proper" output so I will enlarge the output for a 6,3mm jack.
I'll be gentle with the beautiful panel!!
Should I go for insulated or not? The 3,5mm are not, but thought I should ask anyway.
