Randomly today, I remembered seeing this page several months ago, and went back to see what it was. Does anyone know anything about this thing? It seems like it is THE PROVERBIAL SHIT.

I did find what appears to be a 5u variant, but I'm really interested in two things: "Ultrasonic" and Eurorack format.

FWIW This video is AWESOME.

I think it means you have to frown when you play it.

Tremendous idea. :zombie:

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with one. Seems like it's really great.

Dunno mate, but Laurie will be your best bet for in-depth info... or Ian himself; you could PM him here?

I had one of the 5U/MU versions that Doug over at SSL did. Plenty of posts and vids if you search the 5U forum. Very unique design by Ian. Can be used as a sequencer to. That Elby version doesn't have some of the features Doug added like the MIX CV.

Actually, we started working on it just a little over a year ago. He said he would send me a unit to test a couple of months ago, but it still hasn't arrived. Guess he had to redo a couple of minor things.

People who want more info can find some demos at my website:
http://home.comcast.net/~ijfritz/projects/DD.htm
(No docs available currently.)

A demo at my utube page:

This is great! Thanks so much for joining us, sensei.

Interested in the progress of the project, excited to see/hear some demo materials. Is there any fresh development on the Euro version?

It's an obvious understatement to say - Fritz is a Genius.

I have one of these in 5U from SSL and it is unlike any other vco ever designed. There are a few differences between this one from Elby and the SSL build.

One of my favorite things is to use feedback from one of the banks back into the FM inputs. Feedback from the ultrasonic out is nice as well. A combo of ring modulation and FM feedback can create some torture as well as wonderfully elegant timbre.

I often use the DDVCO as a sequencer in Low Frequency mode. It is a graphic sequencer in this fashion and really fun to play with in real time. Each bank serves as a separate 8 step voltage source. Couple it with a quantizer for melodic tone poems.

Use a mixer, fade/pan module to capture wave morphing between the bank outputs. It is curious to note the Elby design lacks this mix feature which I use quite often.

Does any have/does there exist any samples/demos of this? My interest is thoroughly piqued!

Was speaking with recently a friend and fellow Australian wiggler about ELBY and how hard it is to get any solid info about their work. Guess I should just email Laurie too. Now the afternoon Gin is getting to me so I should stop writing :guinness:

Thanks for the kind words. The SSL version has features that were added by Doug Slocum and were not part of my original design. So he gets all the credit for those. Laurie's version, as well as the Bridechamber one, follow the original closely. Laurie and I tend to lean towards the idea of "keeping your modular modular".

The way I use the two banks normally is to process them individually (VCA, Env, VCF, etc.) and mix them further downstream. This gives more flexibility than morphing between the raw waveforms. A matter of personal preference and taste, obviously.

Thanks for your interest (and for not writing "peaked")!

There is a fair amount of info available on the DD:
http://home.comcast.net/~ijfritz/MiscProj/DD.htm
http://www.youtube.com/user/frijitz001

In addition there are several threads here under the 5U subforum, and some utube videos here and there.
