A holder for micro SD cards! I have so may floating about!!
Coming back to this. I could imagine a 1HP SD card 'expander' module for something like the Disting. With a jumper or similar on the back to connect the modules, and then let the user toggle select between a handful of pre-loaded SD cards. I am often fumbling around for my 'ambient loops' SD card, then it's my 'techno drum samples' card, and so forth. From a performance POV, on-the-fly card switching would be really practical + useful. I am thinking particularly of the Disting with its quite fiddly SD card slot.
A sd-card holder would be easy. Just some sdcard slots that stick out a little more than usual on the pcb, and your all set.
If you want it to be switchable and active as you mentioned, that would be another story and not sooo easy to do.
I hate MicroSD cards cause they are so small. When dropped they get lost easily. I bought a couple of these a while back for a project and never used them. They could easily be mounted in a 1HP panel though there wouldn't be much metal left (all the way to one side probably). It is an MicroSC to standard SDcard adaptor. Some of the modules I use, like the Tesseract Nutella, have accessible card slots behind the panel, but most don't so this would be of limited use.

very cute idea, but they die too quickly. who wants to keep replacing water beings in a eurorack, especially if they need power
...but could you USE the sea monkeys to power the Eurorack??

How about a credit card swiper, so your eurorack can directly empty your bank account?
Oh, there's an App for that... :hihi:

Great, can you now make it into a host? That would be superb. 1hp host for USB Midi controllers? Amazing!

i think you could also fit a PiZero directly behind such a panel, then you'd have your 1HP host. (but it's too deep then for my taste..)
would need a little fiddling for powering it, except you'll power it via USB directly.

btw: i just received a tiny prototype for my modded terminal tedium, it's 8HP. but it's a real host, with all the ususal I/O for modulars.

This would be handy for me personally, as I'm constantly moving things around and leaving a bunch of screws on the ledges of my rack unit.
You can see I'm using the Endorphines cable holder blank panel for screws currently, and although this does work, I'd prefer to have these screws fit a little snugger. Or ideally, just screw them in or have a soft push to hold them in place. (They droop a little which isn't ideal, but they don't fall out.)
And in the case of a 1U, you could easily stow about 8-12 Knurlies without them being so close that they are finicky to place or remove.
I'd be tempted to have a few of these throughout my case since they're both practical and would look a bit punk. (Like a studded wrist band.)

Why not do the Knurlie wrist band for real?
Strip of copper or other metal. Drill and tap a bunch of M3 holes. Bend it around your wrist.

Self tapping M3's would mean you didn't need special tools. Could get raw wrist bands at jewelry maker supply.

Does anyone know if there's an SP3T switch that could fit on 1HP? Maybe the ones used recently by intellijel?

What you need is a panel with some rubber grommets in it with holes slightly small than the threads. Just push them in and pull them out with no threading needed. Probably too big for 1HP though. If you could find some stiff thick rubber like car tires, and make a 1HP panel out of it, with holes spaced in it, that would work.

Not hilarious in any way, but just a 1HP panel with holes drilled into it for air flow?

I don't have a part number but I'm talking about the switches like the ones on the Triplatt. Seems like they just might fit.

A 1HP panel is 0.2" wide and there are many sub-miniature toggle switches whose bodies would just fit in that space. The problem is that the holes needed to mount them are seldom that small. The switches shown in the intellijel module are unique and not panel mounted so may work. The same switches are on the Planar II have and are 0.15" flat to flat. This means you will have to machine a panel to use them. The standard punch method would not work because there is not enough metal left over to the edge of the panel, it would tear/shear or curl at best. The rule of thumb is the hole can be no closer to the edge than the thickness of the metal. Front Panel Express could mill that for you though.

a 1HP panel that exposes a power header, making the power pins protrude a few inches from the panel. You know, for happy accidents.

But not everybody is brave enough to use it!

Ps: could be done in 1HP as well!!

Someone in another thread was asking for power switches, so they could power down/reboot individual modules. Apologies once more for a semi-serious suggestion, but it'd be pretty handy.
