Module with good headphone amp

Post by dip_registered » Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:17 pm

First post! Yay.

Wondering if there’s a general consensus as to which output module has the best headphone amp? Looking between 2-6hp.

Cheers!

I don’t know about best, but I’ve had the Make Noise Rosie and the 4MS Listen IO and they’re both great for headphone use.

If you want quality I guess the ACL interface might be a nice option.

Edit: sorry, missed the HP requirement.

Pittsburgh Modular Outs is old, cheap, well built, and reliable.

Prior to switching to Expert Sleepers, I used Pulp Logic’s 1U output tile for headphones/speakers output. Worked great!

Id second the ALM HPO. Sounds great, 2hp. Only downside is it’s 1/8” not 1/4”.
doomlove.

I have the 4MS mix four, its 10hp but is also a four channel mixer along with a headphone out. I have the 1U Intellijel headphone out which works but doesn’t have another output, you need a separate line out module.

I have been happy with the Ladik headphone amp. Don't have anything to compare it against but haven't noticed any quality issues.
It has enough juice to drive my Sony monitor cans.

Only 4hp and has mults for the inputs to send elsewhere.

The Bastl Ciao! is 6hp and sounds good.

They managed to make even a basic panel like that look a bit confusing, because Bastl, but I love it anyway.

Knob Farm Oots is 6hp and also includes a saturator and tilt EQ, which are helpful. The headphone jack is 1/8” though, which may not be what you want.

4ms Listen I/O is great. 6hp. 2 input channels and two stereo output channels. It drives my DT770 Pro headphones just fine.

I love the Befaco Out 3.
Stereo line out and separate headphone out with cue switch.
All on 1/4” jacks in 4hp.

I use the ALM HPO, does exactly what it needs to do and only 2HP. Incredibly shallow too so you can fit it in pretty much any skiff if that's a consideration for you.

The only one I have tried is the Pico out. It’s quiet and have zero problems diving my hd25s. If I had more space and money I would have gotten the happy nerding pan mix. But that’s a mixer more than a headphone amp.
