Thanks dooj88!
The point is to do everything 100% live with no pre-prepared samples. I will work on improving and condensing the initial sampling process. Though that part was probably more interesting ‘in the flesh’, partly as you can’t really see what I’m doing because of the camera angle. But it’s very helpful to have these comments so I can reassess.

Had some fun with the Mimeophone and another delay fed into the Morphagene.

SSF Zero Point Oscillator and voice into an Erica Synths Fusion Delay -> Mimeophone, with the output recorded into a splice on the Morphagene. Morphagene out into the Meris Mercury 7.

Yeah I know what you mean about the first 5min... still trying out different ideas for how to create the sound samples live as part of the set...
well I liked that part. this gathering/creating process brings some demiurgic context. and is as interesting as what happened after - just my opinion.

basically it is a question of approach: every vibration and every sound when you make it live is different and unique and it forms and influences how the whole performance will go.

minimal piece based on 2 morphagene reel sets, which i recorded in the sound on sound procedure with the ems vcs 3. the harmonic oscillator comes later as a driving sequence to it.

Now that gives me a few ideas... Thanks!

The following is not really a composition, but more a test.
I've been working on a drum/percussion reel. The idea here is to have 300 kick/bass samples on the left channel, and another 300 hihats/snare/claps on the right channel. All those samples are perfectly alligned with markers, this gives me 600 samples, divided over 2 channels.
There is no interaction from me in this test, (except for the fade in of channel 2 around 30 seconds) it's a turing machine running on a Temps Utile spitting out random loops, the main output goes to a Nord modular G2 containing a bunch of Rob Hordijks 'building blocks'.

Two morphagene loops : One replayed by the ER301 with internal modulation/eq and another one played live through the ResEQ and Magneto (a chain that works wonders) :

Here's another recording of the Morphagene.

This is 100% Morphagene, with a reel made from 'noodle'-patches I've made on the G2 Nord Modular.
The reel is dual mono and has different sounds on each channel, which makes it easy to combine/mix/process etc...
The reel is available on freesound.org you can download it on the link below

the video requires old skool red/cyan 3d glasses for the effect. i'm sure most of you have those...i always keep a pair on my person, at all times.

all sounds from morphagene (not the outdoor sounds, or the balkan band at the end, but rather the electronic sounds). recorded maybe 2 years or so ago? therefore i don't recall much of how i got the sounds - pretty sure its all modular - i.e. no sampling other than synthesized things from the modular itself.

Of all the compositions in this thread, that Who's the Boss drone kind of makes me want a Morphagene the most.

The basis is a 30 minute slow motion trip through a 10 second snippet of music

Cool! Are you scrolling through a 10-second Morphagene slice by slowly advancing very short genes with Slide? If yes, how do your genes sound so smooth? I always struggle to suppress clicks and pops when trying micro-sound stuff like this. Is it the reverb? Maybe we are hearing only the processed wet signal, or only a small percent of the dry one?

Turn morph up high to smooth it out.
Eléctrica (electric) Nāda (the yoga of sound).

... and I also sent the signal into an er-301 stereo delay. I forgot to mention that in the description.

Sure, but you'll inevitably end up altering the properties of the original sound that way, since you have to Morph at least 3x or so (knob near 11 or 12 o'clock) to get very smooth results. But yes, probably it works well for some input material or some type of desired result. Thanks!

Morphagene Live

Post by sukyaneer » Sun Dec 15, 2019 9:43 am

My entire live performance at the Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester last month was performed on my 6U rack which, as you can hear, heavily featured the Morphagene in combination with the Strymon Magneto. Just enjoy those swirling patterns in stereo. All the music was completely improvised on the night, using recordings from Burgess' vast tape archive of over 1000 cassette recordings.

I hope you might enjoy it :-D
