I like the black modules wayyyy better. The other ones..... not so much. He should higher who ever designs graphics for MakeNoise then he would have cult status.

Shoot, he hardly needs a cult, given that he's in large due responsible for the expansion of an already pretty well-established religion already.

edit- how many times i gotta say already, already? :guinness:

Those early-90s foil patterns remind me of my Trapper Keeper.

Those deigns were crafted to give the modules a sense of childlike playfulness that enhances the creative process by disallowing the user to understand how to utilize the module in the traditional or "correct" manner, thus freeing the artist inside all of us.

And for exactly this reason, I'm having my entire studio custom finger-painted by monkeys

I used acetone and removed graphics from all my equipment, including the circuit boards.

Yes, I'll do that too. The monkeys demand it. They are carte blanche artist.

True
But I'm also trying to imagine a possible hybrid look: classic gray faceblate + new black knobs.
Those black knobs are really good looking!
Are those knobs available somewhere?

I've not seen this mentioned yet, but theres a fair chunk more interesting info in the Namm 2016 pdf on the front page of the Doepfer website:
http://www.doepfer.de/pdf/NAMM_News_2016.pdf

For example.. Another SE edition is on the way.

And..

"More modules will be available as vintage editions during the next few months. The sequencer module series will probably be next (A-154, A-155, A-156).
We are also considering offering the black panels and vintage style knobs as spare parts. This would allow users to modify their existing modules – provided that their skills are sufficient to disassemble and reassemble the modules."

The panel for the A-110-4 SE is a beautiful deep anodised blue that coincidentally matches perfectly with the blue Perspex of my NLC timbre. Happy to have more of these.

The way understand it is there will be the black vintage version officially released by Doepfer with the possibilty he will be making those black panels + knobs available seperately if the demand is high enough.
The trippy colourful versions are just design studies brought to the module by printed adhesive foil, saying, those won´t be officially available, except maybe in downloadable form.

This is what I want to see! I want to convert my whole friggin' rack to the vintage editions. So hot!

I actually like the silver panels, and since most of my rack is like that, I'll keep it that way for consistency. But Doepfer modules look 200% better with black knobs: I've been gradually replacing mine with Synth Pointer ones. They look great, but reduce wiggling room a bit too much on some modules, which is why I'm excited by Doepfer's new black knobs. I have a feeling they'll look really sharp on silver panels too, and be a much better size than the compromise solution I've made so far.

It seems black is the new black!

I'd rather doepfer shaved the odd hp off its modules here & there than change colours though.

Just imagine what modular grid will be like when a few hundred people upload their custom face plate designs.

That SEM looks nice! I love my SEM, and this may push me over the edge on getting a second one.

I would have loved to have started with all black instead of all gray in my A100 but now that I've got gray modules from a lot of other manufacturers it really doesn't matter if they are gray or black.

I have to admit the black is a very sharp look and if he makes templates available for the black designs someone might be able to make a few bucks selling black foil stickers assuming the black looked nice and flat.

I certainly hope the ratcheting controller and SSM2044 filter will be available in black.
I'm planning on buying those anyway.

Hoping for a black edition of the A-185-2. I need one more anyway, and to have a Black Adder module would be swell indeed :hihi:

And that vintage looks sexy as hell.
Is hell really that sexy, though?

It appears that black is the new black in eurorack... afrorack?
