guttural sounds with shapeshifter?

Post by cephalopod » Mon Nov 03, 2014 8:30 pm

I'm trying to get disgusting, guttural, trashy sounds out of my shapeshifter
I figured I'd make a post and see if anyone has any ideas or settings they've used before.
Another way to put it would be low frequency sounds with crunchy textures, if that makes sense.
I realize that may sound vague. I'll try to post an example when I get home tonight.
The closest I've gotten to what I'm looking for is phase modulating the primary oscillator with the secondary at low frequencies. It works better using one of the harmonically complex wavebanks.
Any other ideas?

the "glitch" combo mode combined with low freq vco2 gets pretty broken up...

Once you've got some crazy modulations going, try the pulse output

Any of the Vocal waveforms through a LPF is gonna get you in the gutteral territory. Obviously the lower the frequency on the osc will stand out more and get you some Gregorian chanting vibes

ModA usually set to Shape 2

For whacked out sounds the 1=2 Sync and 2=1 Sync modes are your friends. Turn up the INT FM a bit, and put into Chord Mode for extra outlandishness.

The glitch mode suggestion got me close to what I wanted. xor got me a little closer, then putting it into chord mode with the detuning turned up thickened it up a bit.
I'll try out some more of the suggestions in the morning, but here's what I got tonight.

+1

basically took the words right outta my brain!
using the vocal wavesforms and a mi tides to modulate the sync and fm..
i was doing this last night and my ladyfriend walked into the studio and told me that it sounded like two elderly cows f@cking, or several goats dying in agony. she couldn't make up her mind.

good luck and have fun! :goo:
