Metasonix Ambient Session

Post by Scooter McCrae » Thu Jul 23, 2020 5:28 pm

Greetings All;

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the Share Your Music subforum, but I'm guessing more people here will wanna listen to some tube goodness than most people in the other place. Let me know if it's cool or not and I'll remove this from here if it's not.

Twenty minutes of knob twiddling between two TM-3 Dual Oscillator pedals going into a matrix mixer and being separately pumped into a TM-6 Multimode Filter pedal and a TM-7 Scrotum Smasher. Reverb is provided by the audio mixer's built-in cheapie EFX. It's mostly ambient, but "ambient" takes on a whole different character when Metasonix tube magic is conjured......!

Thanks for listening if you choose to check it out. I find it a pretty relaxing listen even when things get a little bit.... interesting.

Here is fine. It's the cross-posting that isn't allowed. I changed the title to the "Metasonix" name. Will listen in the morning.

I thought "Metasonic" was intentional.

Not according to the Soundcloud file. It can always be changed back by Scooter as well.

Hah! Nope, I fucked up the title -- thanks very much for correcting it, Kent! And thanks about the cross-posting info as I wasn't sure about that either.

And thanks to you for listening and enjoying, Yes Powder! I need to post my audio therapy sessions here more often when I go all tubular....!

Scooter, This was awesome. Thanks for sharing. I used to own the TM-3, TM-6 and TM-7. I've got a bunch of other Metasonix gear, but you've made me miss the 6 & 7!

Wow, this is great sounding!

Is the TM-3 closer to the RK-4 or the RK-7 in function (and would you need four of them to achieve what you are doing here?)

Thanks, folks! Very much appreciate the listens and the comments.

I just recently recorded some stuff with a Buchla Skylab set-up and the TM-7 Scrotum Smasher that came out very nice. I'll post that to Soundcloud sometime in the next week or so. They pair nicely so I feel your pain on missing that pedal as I love to tweak with it.

Unfortunately, cannot answer the question about the TM-3 similarity to the RK series as I have not worked with any Metasonix Euro modules, but I assume that you would need four or whichever one you chose since the TM-3 is a dual-oscillator pedal.

That being said, I've had great success in the past with the Wretch machine -- which has only two oscillators -- achieving some complex and relatively "vocal" sounding timbres (see audio below for my favorite example).

The RK7 is closer to the TM3, although it lacks the TM3's neon lamp suboctave circuit.
