Very sorry to hear this

I’m a long time lurker here. I don’t interact much with the community, but nonetheless it’s been an absolute treasure trove of information and knowledge to me as I’ve been on my modular journey. Never knew Mike but I definitely knew of him.

RIP Mike

I got to meet him once in Portland. Super nice man and I am really sad to hear that he is no longer in this plane of existence. RIP bud, thanks for building this great community.

RIP Mike. I always respected you, and the tributes here are a testament to your good spirit. Thank you for creating this community, which was my gateway into the world of modular. We will carry on wiggling in your honor.

I didnt know him but finding this forum a year ago brought me out of a years-long funk and back into music making. Then into a new world of modular, and then diy, some bucket list things I didnt expect to touch in this lifetime that now make life exciting.
Very grateful for the community and inspiration and sad to hear this news.

RIP Mike

Without Muffs I would not have been able to make the music I do now. Thank you Mike for the vision and foresight to create a place that holds such a wealth of knowledge and that has no doubt shaped the sound of electronic music for the better. RIP Man.

I'm at a total loss for words.
So sorry to hear this.

Like many others, this site had a tremendous impact in my life. I absolutely would not be where I am today if it weren't for this site, this community, and all the kindness and knowledge shared here.

We all owe you so much for facilitating what always has been (for many of us) the best place on the internet.

Thanks for everything. You will be missed.

So sad to see this. I read every comment in the thread and new ones just keep pouring in. It's amazing how many people are taking the time to say something, amazing how many lives (including mine) were directly influenced by Mike's random decision to install phpBB on a server back in the day.

Mike's refusal to commercialize the site or run advertisements despite ever-increasing hosting costs always seemed to be an intentional negation of corporate-controlled social media and the pervasive hostility, misinformation, and exploitation that it facilitates. This site has instead facilitated connection, community, openness, sharing, creativity, friendships, and free flows of information – the antithesis of what online discussion has largely become in 2019.

The overall tone here has changed somewhat in recent years but I think the best we can do to honor Mike's intentions is to keep all this in mind. The community is not just the forum itself, it's the people who post here. Mike created this platform but whatever name, shape, or form it might take next there is no community without people who are helpful, patient, tolerant, kind, and considerate. Today I think we can all realize that life is short and contemplate what kind of legacy we want to leave after we're gone.

This is incredibly sad news. While I never met Mike personally, he was kind enough to answer questions of mine when I first joined this community. I've spent so much time on muffwiggler for years learning, reading and talking with like minded folks. I am so sad to hear this and my heart goes out to his family, friends and everyone that he has touched.
