Metasonix RS/Serge modules

...was planning to make a custom Serge/RS "4x4" or whatever it's called module for a friend. It will be two standard RK modules on a nice engraved panel. I could do this with any two RKs so if you're interested, email or PM directly. https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/66_sergerkpanel_1.jpg

VCOs to RK3s to RK5 channels modulated with Euclidean Circles. Damn nice sounds, and about as far from the usual wanky squeaky squelching as one can get.

Two thyratron VCOs thru RK5 lowpass gates, modulated with outputs from a Euclidean Circles module.
Yes the 2 channels sound very different -- thank the tubes and the vactrols, baby. Inconsistent little bastards.

Two switches! One would be octave. The other? "Sine" lol. Just a lowpass filter to make it sound siney. Because PRIMITIVE. Also, ha "BOILER" and "BULB CRAM" (or is that BULB CREAM) Prototypes for things we figgered no one would ever understand. The BOILER is hilarious but too weird to sell and too ...

moar videos to annoy and beguile

prototype thyratron VCOs to RK3 to RK4 to RK2 with R-56 reverb added, controlled with Arturia Keystep (if you are compelled to mess with thyratron VCOs, a Keystep is recommended because it will do Hz/v CV output). Distortion figures unknown but likely considerable. Have a nice day. https://vimeo.com...

Thonk is better run in general but more costly because shipment from the UK, plus a similar large mishmash of "partial kits". No blank panels that I could find.

Modularaddict's website is a joke

Hundred of products. Good or bad, I can't tell. Innumerable "alternate" front panels for things, many bare PC boards. (Do they sell ANY blank Euro panels? I could not find any.) The parts selection is paltry but some are useful to me. So far their 5C3/2 vactrol has been the best one in current produ...

Please. Stop. We are working on products. It is HELLLLL. Breadboard it and fight for weeks to make it work (sometimes it never does and we have to try something else), then fight to lay out a PC board. Then struggle to fix the errors on the board, because there's no "engineering staff" to help. I am...

I've got a "transformer center" right next to my studio. Or what ever they are called. This kind of building: Could easily be a problem. Seems like Malekko SND/RTN is the cause of my suffering. It worked fine with TX-1 in my old apartment. Now it also works fine with other pedals (battery powered)....

I know! Let's interview Alessandro Cortini!

> How do you think vacuum tubes find a use in the modern recording studio? Tubes have always been synonymous of warmth, so i see them as a way to humanize and embellish digital or rough sound sources, but the beauty of them is that you can go the other way as well and stir up something calm into a m...

This sounds like possible defective household mains wiring. The earth-ground connections might be floating or the hot and neutral wires might be reversed. That would be REEEEALLY BAD and you need to have a licensed electrician check the wiring for such problems. It's a major safety hazard. If the la...

Legend had it that Don made several red modules for his "best customers" only. Complete with the "special hidden feature". Since most of the people involved are dead now, it's just another of those wacky stories of the 60s counterculture. Posted by Gino Robair on Facebook today: Here's the Buchla re...

Some news? Try this: The latest shipment of 34063 chips was defective. This has happened before with ST-made chips and now it's TI-made production. The bad ones before would not make +HV without blowing up, this batch works fine for HV but blows up if asked to make -5v. This is in a circuit design w...

I would like to order a full Euro kit--sending PM now. FYI Bard chose well for the tubes. These surplus Soviet types are also common-as-dirt and practically worthless in the USA and Europe. So the supply is essentially never-ending. EAA91 = 6AL5, 6EB5 or 5726, plus several variations with different ...

Whatever power adapter you use, make sure it puts out at least 1 amp, or more. Smaller ones will run hot and might fail prematurely.

Yes YOU ARE AN ASS :despair: Feeding it 18v would have overheated the regulator chips and maybe caused capacitors in the +70v supply to go bad. But it "probably" was not damaged in this case. If you start fucking with higher voltages "because they sound different" I will spank you with a My Little P...

Some thoughts about Mike

Also posted on the Metasonix FB page: Very sad news about Mike McGrath. He really, really liked Metasonix in the early days, pre-2008 when the Euro scene first started to gain momentum. Bought quite a few TMs and TXes, and we even made him a custom TX-2. Mike was the only forum operator who was open...
