Re: Cleaning up a Meanwell for basic euro use

Ignorance is bliss. By the way I have a lashed together DIY cabinet from decades ago that just keeps going and despite it being fed from 2x linear supplies.... it is NOISY and HUMMY like crazy!!! Hookup and wiring is just as important (more important?) that just the type of supply. There’s got to be...

Re: Sequentix Cirklon

Are there any alternative sequencers with similar workflow and possibilities as the Cirklon? Midibox Seq4+ shares the sheer “quantity” of sequencing possible with Cirklon (8 DIN outputs, 4 inputs, 16 tracks of up to 256 steps) No aux events or accumulators, but there are 4 internal busses that you ...

I’m with EPTC, this money is long gone and I await every update and shred of info because I really love every aspect of this design. It’s a dream device and I know Jim is a hard worker and loves this stuff 1000%. I also think that if the bridge was going to fall he’d be the first to tell us and try ...

Re: SERGE licensing questions.

I think you can take the core concept of any Serge module and design a version without directly copying the schematics. As has been said licensing in most formats has been laid out already so you might be better off just rolling your own.

Re: THE SPACE CASE TE-2 - Eurorack / Standalone Echo + Tape Unit

Pcbs have a pretty quick turnaround, but designs do not translate from a rats nest of breadboards and alligator clips to SMD in one go... I’m assuming his pcb guy is going through a revision or three to get the circuit behavior right. Whatever is going on it would be nice to hear something! It’s not...

Re: Midibox seq v4+

Tom if you’re primarily a keyboard player, take a look at the MidiPhy Loopa, which is more of a midi recorder / looper, as opposed to seq4, which is very much a “step sequencer”

Re: Midibox seq v4+

Midibox hardware uses something called “mios studio” which is a computer program that allows you to load firmwares to the midibox devices and also acts as a fairly comprehensive midi monitor. It’s not something I’d be using live..??? But definitely a good troubleshooting tool. (This thread should be...

Re: Hardware sequencers that'll import and save MIDI data.

An MPC is timeless because of its relative flexibility. It will do what you want most of the time. With multiple MIDI ports it is designed as a centerpiece of a midi studio. Not much else compares even to this day. That being said, wanting to download midi data can mean a few different things, so a ...

I’m sure any MPC will do this too. Also the roland MC sequencers from the same era.. (90’s I guess)

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Stice, the idea is (for example) that a slope generator patched to be a divider for instance isn’t as versatile as a dedicated divider. I’m not saying that it’s not useful to have that ability in a pinch, or fun, or ingenious. It’s that ability that leads patching into really unique directions and u...

Can someone explain Serge to me? They look like regular simple modules to me. My 20cents on Serge.. Serge has lots of regular “simple” modules, and no menu diving. Lots of buying options these days. What makes Serge different is how the core modules are designed to be patchable into performing diff...

Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

My two cents on this... Feel of a control comes down to the geometry of the knob and the construction of the potentiometer. That combination should be tested and reviewed until the designer ends up with the feel / durability/aesthetic that they desire. Durability is down to pot choice and pot mounti...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Normal as in plain vanilla. At this point more features and specs shouldn’t be the important thing. So I mean an analog vco with a few wavesjape outs, a few cv ins and that’s about it. Get two. Same wth the envelope generators. Everyone loves to say get Maths but learning that module is a journey i...
