Thanks for your reply John. I will post a piece of audio tomorrow. I don't think it's a power supply issue (will check it and the 5V regulator though) as I have a second VCDO which is working just fine in the same case. I also removed all the other modules from the case just to check it wasn't somet...

Modcan B Series VCDO issue

I have a problem with my B series VCDO. The FM ratio is working but makes a crackling sound at various points when either the pot is turned or a CV is applied to the relevant input. Has anybody experienced this with a VCDO or have any ideas where to start looking for a solution? I did wonder whether...

Not sure about finding something passive but what about an old surround processor? They normally have optical inputs and lots of analogue connections for turntables etc. Here's an example (not my auction I should add!) http://www.ebay.ie/itm/meridian-561-processor-use-in-stereo-as-a-dac-or-preamp-wi...

I appreciate the aesthetics of certain modular manufacturers - Modcan A and B series for example. But, in terms of defining what I will or will not purchase, functionality wins over looks every day of the week. Sure, but in Euro there is such a wealth of options, you can almost always find another ...

I don't think of them as overlooked as such but here are a few Doepfer favourites. The first two are examples of what Doepfer does well at times. Really useful, multi-functional modules with a lot of interesting features. Sure, they may take up a few more HP and not look as pretty as some other make...

Thanks!

Is it available in 5U anymore?
The Modcan one? It was never available in their 5U line.

Modcan's CV Recorder can be used as a (fairly lo-fi) sampler.

You'd have to look for a used one at the moment though.

Here's a collection of drones I made 8 years ago.
4 tracks with a total of 70 minutes playing time - hopefully they'll be long enough for you!

Would prefer Random Source mounting although it wouldn't be a deal breaker if LW was the only one offered.

So has anyone here had good results using a distortion wave through a wave shaper or wave folder. And by good results I mean producing different and possibly clean waveforms from a very distorted waveform. You will certainly be able to produce different waveforms. But, those modules introduce disto...

So do pulse waves lend themselves to further shaping or is there just not enough harmonic structure? It's sine waves that don't really do that much when filtered. But, they do work well with waveshapers/wavefolders which tend to do a good job on fairly simple content i.e. not lots of harmonics. Pul...

You might be able to get some used if you are lucky.

Or look into making some or getting some made for you.

Maybe Tom has the appropriate file or drawing with measurements he could give you?

Yeah, but they're white and MOTM size (or black/odd size in original banana), propriety power connection, and from what I can tell... effectively out of business for years. You're absolutely right about the module selection and complete system potential, though. They do fit quite easily into dotcom...

So, does anyone not use a sequencer at all to create melodies? If I'm looking for melodies I prefer to use a random CV source of some description, limit the range of it to whatever degree I feel works and then put it through a quantizer. I'm not hugely into sequencers although I do have a couple. T...

Outside of Euro the two single manufacturer systems I'd never get rid of are Bugbrand and Modcan B.

In Euro - I'd go for Plan B or Doepfer. I've had this sitting in modulargrid for a while.

Bass guitar was my main instrument for years.
I certainly play it less since I got into modular synths.
But tha might partly be due to just not being that interested in playing in bands anymore and not making music with my modular that I'd use a bass on.

The one Euro module I have kept over the years of buy/sell/buy/sell is a Plan B Model 13 dual lpg. I've not heard another lpg in euro that sounds as good as it does. So I guess it's my favourite module.
