Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

I think the online modular community is part of the thing that drives this. Seeing other people's massive modular systems makes people think that their system is inadequate if they have anything less. And unfortunately those giant systems seem to be the most visible and routinely showed off. To be ...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

When I see a really big modular system I just think it's too much to mentally process. In fact, part of me is attracted to the idea of a smaller and more focused setup than I have now -- maybe someday I'll downsize. For now, I am really pleased with what my synth can do in its current form. If anyt...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

We take pride in having large systems, and on how damaged our wallets are. Among the group of producers I know, we are all almost competitive in what we can out of cheap shit gear. You will definitely be trolled for having a wall of high end eurorack. There is no pride to be had in it, it's conside...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

Likewise, a guitar is absolutely not an essential piece of gear for me, because I'm not a guitarist . Are guitars and pedals somehow "extreme consumerism" because guitar players buy and own (and in many cases, collect) them? (You know what, nevermind, I know some people are going to say "yes" to th...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

I still think it is consumerism at its finest. I honestly don't get why people deny it. You're not some counter culture warrior just because you buy eurorack modules! It's not necessarily a bad thing, especially when you're supporting small companies, but its very similar to what I see in the likes ...

Re: Doepfer BBD sound

It's not a traditional BBD. It aliases, it's noisy and it's pretty lousy if you want to get one for just delay purposes.

However.... for experimentation:

Re: Is 64 steps really enough?

Nerd Seq is great, but it's one of the only midi capable sequencers under several grand that is capable of that. There are others with at least the ability to chain or have a song mode. BSP, KSP, Hermod, Toolbox, Eloquencer etc - all have MIDI sequencing capability too and many are quite affordable...

Re: Is 64 steps really enough?

Not all sequencers are limited to just 64 steps. Plenty of current CV sequencers offer chaining, and sequencers like Nerdseq allows for full songs to be realised. The step limit is likely more down to recreating the experience of old sequencers and to allow for immediacy in terms of performing, more...

Re: Arturia Keystep pro

Got around two issues: - You can set the lowest note, similar on the BSP. Completely forgot about this and now can hit those low notes. - Polyphonic CV just uses a different implementation then what I'm used to - it assigns each CV channel to the order of what key you press, rather than rotate and a...

Re: Arturia Keystep pro

I’ve been trying to figure out why I can’t get gate or cv out of 3 of the 4 channels. Midi works, just not cv. I’m not sure if I’ve got a bad unit or if their firmware is that undercooked. You have to assign them. Hold shift and pick which CV channel you want on the keys. You can pick multiple on o...

Re: Modules that FEEL good

hope we have new MI modules on the horizon); Unless you have insider information... Emilie stated a while ago that she isn't designing any new modules. I thought she said she was finally getting back into it again? Not sure where I read that, but I swear it was announced. Current MI range is perfec...

Re: Questioning common advice

Starting slow doesn't mean inflexibility - could be a regular flow of 1-2 modules a month and you can pick exactly what ones you want. I have seen beginners sell off all their modular gear moments after buying it though, and that is mainly the faulty of buying everything too fast. It only makes sens...

Re: Arturia Keystep pro

So yet another Arturia product big on promises and short on delivery. Of the six products I've had from them in the last few years the only one I've kept is the KeyStep. If only that had wheels instead of those hopeless strips... I believe they have delivered quite a lot. New products always have m...

I like it in its current state, but I wish they provide octave controls and remove that weird latency when it comes to modulating wavetables.

Re: Arturia Keystep pro

I've just double checked, it is indeed just velocity and aftertouch for mod out - huh, weird. It works on MIDI and have been using my nerseq to translate the mod strip to CV out. Firmware updates will fix it, same with the other bugs I've came across. Was the same situation with the BSP and that got...

Re: 1010 Music Bitbox - Sampler/Looper

Since when? I sold it literally prior to the preview firmware. 2.5 had threshold recording among other things, but no destructive editing abilities. They even fobbed it off on the forum as being difficult to implement due to UI concerns despite me giving UI/UX suggestions to make it work. EDIT: chec...

Re: Modules that FEEL good

I like the big knobs on my furthrrrrr generator - they're slightly clicky when you move them and fairly precise despite not having a lot of resistance, mainly due to being 10-turns. Doepfer's have a nice resistance to them, feel very solid too. MI's are nice but I love how they implement the big kno...

Re: 1010 Music Bitbox - Sampler/Looper

...still no destructible editing? I'm kind of glad I sold my bitbox. Not a bad module, just underdeveloped firmware. Felt like I was a beta tester more than anything.

The mini version looks interesting, but not putting my hopes up.

Re: ALM BUSY CIRCUITS ‘DIN-SYNC ADAPTOR CABLE’

If you already have something to convert MIDI clock into DIN SYNC, you need to make sure it is actually sending a signal on the DIN SYNC end. You can check this by looking at the LED of your kenton D-Sync. Also looking at the adapter, you need a proper DIN SYNC cable to connect to it, not a MIDI cab...
