Re: NOise engineering naming...

Kinda beats A-172 or RxMx. While I would agree, doepfer's naming convention at least is far more consistent eg. 110s are always sound sources, 130s are always mixers/VCAs, 150s are always sequencers and switches etc. They also have the literal name of the module after the number - can't get a matri...

Re: Update from Mutable Instruments on a DivKid youtube comment? 3 more releases?

Emilie needs a well deserved break after this. I wasn't expecting 3 new modules, happy to see them, but she's already proved herself more than enough to not have to make more.

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

That was the claim you asserted. Why even fucking bring it up? If it breaks off and it's an SMD part, worst that happens is that it comes clean off. I've had that happen with SMD capacitors and resistors on older equipment. No big deal if you can solder SMD parts. Through hole? Could snap a few of t...

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

You're more likely to snap the component off the PCB than actually break the jack, in that case. That's a *very* weak argument. You literally said it on your post. You went into detail on the solder. Are you saying your *own* argument is weak? If something is held by just solder, it's VERY e...

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

Unless you are using the worst out there, or adding a 10kg weight to the end, the average jack can handle quite a lot. I've had modules for nearly 13 years now, and not once I had a broken jack despite having lots of stackables, splitters etc. Even did this for a laugh a few years ago to prove a po...

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

The jack type matters . Try that trick for awhile with the non panel-mounted jacks like Behringer -and some others- is using and get back to us. Especially given the poor soldering seen in the modules now out in the wild. Those solder joints are ALL that is holding such jack types in place. And ele...

Re: Avoid Mac Mini 2018/20 if using Ableton!

The problem is with the GPU - even if you think your mac is "pretty substantial", it will be brought to its knees if any program really stresses the GPU. Also the fact that MacOS is horrendous when it comes to GPU drivers and optimisation, along with the fact they tend to use shite GPUs to begin wit...

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

And if your case is vertical gravity would do that damage for you. Let's be careful out there! nah, jacks aren't that sensitive, but i get what you mean. Yes, they are. You are adding unusual weight with stuff like this. It happened to me once. The socket was mounted to the panel, and its frame sta...

Re: "Get lost in the sounds of YouTube’s growing ambient modular synth community"

There’s a wide difference between criticizing someone’s latest effort, or output in general and disparaging an entire style of music because it is not to your taste. Something that I don’t believe has been mentioned on this thread: the modular synth is an instrument, not a genre. Flamenco guitar an...

Re: Chinese 1 into 5 passive multiple.

The Black Market multiples... are the same. Same shape, same insides. They just have a logo slapped onto them for a 10x upmark. Really hate when people overprice stuff like this. I often see the same with M3 screws and IDC cables - slap "eurorack" onto them and guaranteed they'll be marked up massiv...

Wow, the stench of boomer is intensifying. Cleaner on aisle six, stat. Boomer seems to be as much a state of mind as a chronological thing in this thread. You can be a cranky knee-jerk reactionary at any age, or thoughtful open-minded and mischievous at any age too. It's almost like labels can't be...

I would also add "being grumpy boomers".
Not my personal demographic, but I can see how it would be convenient to assume so.

Grumpy, maybe.
It's more of a mindset if anything, although a large proportion of them are indeed actual geriatric boomers.

Re: Avoid Mac Mini 2018/20 if using Ableton! (Solution added)

I’d go this route over the current iMacs , but if you find yourself where I am and can cope with going back to windows and the driver and update hassles , then I’d personally recommend doing that , you’ll probably end up with a much more powerful machine these days, even with macs clever optimisati...

So now you’ve made an allegation against a company about anti Semitism (I am Jewish by the way), and simply refuse to say what they said that was anti Semitic? Right...... Quit with the fucking strawmen, it's greasy. I didn't make any allegation. I said that some people did see it as anti-semitic a...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

I just wish they didn't resort to greasy tactics (and arguably anti-semitic) because journalists were critical of them - they were on a good run with their synths and that alone speaks for itself, they were starting to change people's minds slowly but surely. At that point I couldn't defend them an...

I have a custom PC for music/3D rendering purposes, pretty confident it would put most macs to shame in sheer CPU grunt. Based around the Ryzen 3900x - 12 core/24 thread beast. For example, my iMac at work would take about 15 minutes per 3D render, while my PC can do it in less than 2 minutes...

They definitely were ready. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now. That is a little unfair. Obviously deliveries are still happening, just pointing out a literal global pandemic is why stock is dry and why such delays are happening. It can't be controlled. I've had packages come at least a week o...

Some rather bleak standpoints regarding relationships and the catenation of men and women in this thread. :) In my view you can invite your partner to partake in your hobby without forcing it on him/her and without the inevitable destruction of the relationship. My partner is also my best friend an...

Scotland is still under pretty heavy lockdown, so you likely won't hear anything until June at earliest. Frustrating but blame it on the virus :despair:

Pandemic is causing delays all over the place with deliveries in general too.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing something but-- I've heard B's clones don't sound like their originals. This being the case, if a clone doesn't sound exactly like the original, what's the point? I'm not talking about gear that's been "inspired by" other designs, where the maker made new contributions t...
