I was charmed to find this Haight St era Serge ad in the margins of a scan of a 1981 issue of a Contemporary Keyboard and thought it would be fun to share. Looking for somewhere to tuck it, this thread at least seemed to have a nice related link. You know, since you would have received a catalog if ...

Today I discovered that I'm way more excited about new modulation/utilities modules than VCOs and Filters. Must be something wrong with me :help: No, I get it. It's the utilities that turn your machine into a cable-programmed audio computer. I get most excited about modules having to do with clocki...

Nice tracks! Deluge or Polyend Seq might turn my head for your purposes. I've realized an awful lot of the performers in my area that produce full live sets with all hardware are actually working with audio loops instead of synthesis. Feels like a bit of a cheat to me, a bit more like DJ'ing, but th...

I think we are supposed to be embarrassed by this one , but I have one, too. Or had, I guess. It started acting really wonky and is in the junk closet now. Really enjoy a lot of its sounds.

Color me amazed... and even semi-interested, were it not for the fact that AS do not have a good reputation for build quality or servicing. What happens when something goes wrong? Just freight it back to the manufacturer for repair. I had a problem with an Asol Red Square. It was a MIDI issue...

Love the taped-on graphics labels on a £25K synth :hihi: Prototype. Love this. I had mostly convinced myself a Synthi 100 would be an unusable mess, particularly now that I pull out my reading glasses every time I patch my Synthi's matrix, but I have to say I find this pretty interesting. Oops, jus...

Anyone who remembers how cheap these once were will probably have a very different perspective on their relative "value" compared to someone just jumping in the synth game. I honestly don't know. Some people have had issues with random triggers on the original version., but I don't know how prevalent that is or what BUSA's remedy was--possibly just a dedicated ground plug? But you should be able to ground the 218 to your other gear or possibly to yourself when playing ...

The new one doesn't have plastic frets between the keys and has additional grounding. The frets are the old school style and provide some nice tactile feedback, so you might actually prefer your version.

Re: Buchla USA 2018 model - issues?

Hey, I’m about to buy a buchla USA 2018 model and I am wondering about the 218 keyboard on that one. I’ve seen that they updated it during 2019. Are there any issues I should be aware of? And also should it say “buchla electronic musical instruments” on the front lower right corner? Even though it’...

I like using them to create envelopes from other sources. Voice, as mentioned above, or anything else you can mic. Rain, etc, or a popcorn maker in a classic Don Buchla example. My personal favorite was creating a pretty eternal modulation shape using a guitar as an input. Left to themselves, guitar...
