That sounds like possibly a quite fun pair on their own? I'm too daft to keep Morphagene's combos straight in my head, but a unique sound source + Magneto sounds like a quirky ambient set waiting to happen.

One advantage of 5U that I don’t think has been mentioned yet is that switching 1/4” jacks are often incorporated in module designs or modifications for useful normalization options. To the question of the STG Sea Devils Filter sounding different across formats, I doubt there is any meaningful sonic...

I used to have a Buchla 100 module in my 200e case. It was just a noise module, which added almost nothing to my system and had a panel so bare it was practically like having a blank in my case. I eventually sold it to make better use of the space, but I miss its scuffed-up vintage charm. :waah:

Echoing several others, the Q107 and STG Sea Devils stand out among the many 5U filters I've used. Moon 517 is interesting as well, though its UI feels a little wonky, making me stop short of calling it a favorite.

Buchla 200e. The whole line feels like a QC disaster and has been a buggy work-in-progress for over a decade now, and there are arguably better designed versions of its classic circuits in Euro for hundreds less, but it is lovely for what it wants to do, plus or minus some vactrol bleed. W...

Euro is starting to have a crazy number of sticky threads. I'd add them sparingly were it up to me, though of course it isn't. Relevant threads easily stay at the top by their own merit, particularly in a quiet forum like 5U.

Yes it's expensive, but it's around half the price of a new Synthi from Robin Wood, without the 15-year waiting list. . The VCS3 is still available from Robin, but pending a possible case redesign down the line, the Synthi is not. My biggest concern is that the "Etch-a-Sketch style" of patching the...

But 2.5k for a mono is a lot. Especially when you can get synth like craftsynth 2.0 from modal that cost 120, and are really amazing sounding and feature rich. I looked up a demo of the Craftsynth 2.0. If you are looking at two things that happen to produce sound and saying that one costs more than...

5U Oakley is a superior format in terms of power distribution, grounding, low noise etc..5U MOTM is superior for having the sealed pots, real nos vintage IC with modern opamps and OTA where it makes sense. .com is cheap, has [poopy] power, [poopy] panel layouts. Modcan is a mixed bag of 3 different...

The Synthi A and VCS3 already offer patch matrix memory thanks to the prestopatch. With this digital matrix one can't play with the matrix pushing and pulling pins, which is a big part of the Synthi fun and versatility. Yes, but 'different' can bring its own benefits. And the 'one negative of the p...

Of course this precision and performance could detract from some of the interesting quirks of the original design! :despair: Yes, probably, but look who's building it! I bet it will have some mojo. I like the the design of the matrix with Etch-a-Sketch knobs and attenuation settings. I could see th...

Can this system be easily combined with another case to expand its capabilities? if so, what would you expand it with? Yes, Moon makes a very similar P Case for expansion. I'd start with their 569 sequencer and some related sequencing modules or one of the 960 clones by other builders. Or of couse,...

Re: Looking for a pic of the wiring of a Q149 Signal Selecto

I'd like to make about 20 separate switches, so the price will get high if I don't make them myself. I have a plan to make a bunch of selector switches all over the studio. I don't have the answer for you, but I would love to hear all about your plans. I'm about to move and am obsessed with thinkin...

There are so many ways to go with this. I have a 168hp case that is partly for a sequencer and voice with the rest for effects for use with other synths. I use (and recommend) Modcan Dual Delay, Strymon Magneto, and Make Noise Erbe Verb, but also simple things like a filter (I use a Rossum Evolution...
