Personally, I'd stick to the SSI part if at all possible. Its documentation is perfect, and it has behaved precisely as expected for everything that I've used it in so far. It also does not require the Schottky fix for the negative rail, and has other small improvements.

The harshness could just be in the patching / gain staging. Or the same on the recording end. A lot of people thought the Prophet 6 was a harsh sounding synth until people took the time to program it properly, and set up the gain correctly. Then it's smooth as silk. I also think a lot of people that...

Interesting! Well, I do really like the simplicity of the FETs (even more-so after you eliminated most of them).

Would it make sense to swap the JFETs for say a DG-series switch? I've used them in a slope generator, but haven't tried them in the context of a VCO. They do seem to switch quite accurately though on the slope generator. I think I'm using the DG418. Wow, that latest schematic is so simple! Very coo...

Interesting!

Those boards are nicely laid out. I also notice they're using the J201 for sine shaping. Something that started I believe during some of the first 258 cloning work at Electro-Music way back when.

They're slightly above $200 each, but I've been liking the Adam T7Vs I picked up. I had been using some old Tapco S5s plus a sub, but didn't like the crossover points I could get with the combo. Picked up the T7Vs, and they do quite well IMO. The mids/highs are excellent, and the bass is not bad. Th...

what if you used the spare OTA to toggle the schmitt trigger? i keep thinking about the differences between this approach and the EN129 approach. they both cause an inversion on CV zero crossings. the EN129 does this by toggling the flip-flop in the feedback, whereas this approach inverts the feedb...

Simply grabbing a PCB for each function, placing it behind a custom single panel, and pre-routing anything that seems logical is a perfectly acceptable way to build something like this. Lay something out in Front Panel Designer that fits a pair of VCOs, a timbre circuit, maybe a VCA or two, pre-rout...

That's another good idea actually. I did this with a filter that I made (added a VCA using a left-over OTA) for FM or even just general use. I don't think any distortion from the OTA will have much of an impact on FM. Unless you were trying to do something say with slower sine waves that required a ...

For euro-friendly complex/dual config, I think the TWO59 is going to be the best option. It's a very complete project from what I remember too, and I think well documented as well. (I haven't built one, but I followed the project for quite a while.) I have a couple of PCB options, but none of them a...

I love the simplicity of this core for getting TZ functionality. (as opposed to a bunch of logic ICs anyway) You can also get a nearly "free" sine shaper with the second half of the OTA IC.

been using my Elektrons for well over a decade. currently own digitone, A4 mk1, and OT mk2. have owned and loved MD, MnM, A4 keys, rytm mk1. they are fun to use and i have managed to make tons of music with them which is on actual albums and have been played at actual live sets all over the world. ...

i can't imagine why any one would complain about this update. it's awesome, and comes years after initial product release. i also don't understand why any one assumed that the A4 and rytm would have midi tracks. i am further baffled that these people went so far as to *purchase* an A4 or rytm witho...

I suppose the biggest thing that bothers me here, is that this is a thread about some newly added, highly requested features, that just came out of the blue, landed on peoples' machines, and increase the functionality, but most of the people in a thread about something positive have nothing but com...

It's like I'm back in the mid-late 80's again. How future retro  The different Elektron samplers look fun indeed, but from a workflow and spec point of view they are far too basic and missing way too many feature for me. I'm too used to using highly spec'd samplers with tons of polyphony, edit...

This is a tough place to have a positive opinion about Elektron. I own an Octatrack mk2 and love it. Can’t fathom calls to discontinue it - it’s still an incredibly creative machine, and one you can use for a number of different applications. There’s not anything that DT does that OT doesn’t that m...

Nah, I am good with MPC Live and OT for hardware samplers. I am poking fun and also curious to see if omitting stuff that is easy to include, becomes a thing for more brands than just Elektron in the future and of course it is interesting to see how the market responds to this practise. But of cour...

Yeah, its funny reading that the wonder of stereophony...is a "spec" (well it is...or rather was a good few decades ago), in 2019...but there you go. If its so good, maybe I should buy two for stereo samples :miley: I'm not saying you're wrong there. However, the device itself is stereo. Not one po...

I actually really like the Digitakt and I do not want it to do 'absolutely everything under the sun' because that would kill the immediacy of the unit. However a sampling unit with stereo input jacks with no stereo sampling or even audio thru in 2018 appears a bit suspicious to me. I agree there is...

Funny reading that there is a purpose for a 650€ sampler, to be mono in 2019...in order to keep the costs down :hihi: Actually it's a hell of a lot more than a sampler. It's actually the only sampler that I've ever enjoyed using. I absolutely hate all the old "classic" samplers. (Akais, Ensoniq, Em...

I suppose in a way this is just simple economics for a company with a product range with varying price brackets. They simply cannot make a cheaper product with similar functionality to a more expensive model. The problem here though its like buying a cheaper model of a Samsung phone where they left...
