Well, the OP back then asked for technical background beyond "sound" which can be subjective. Me I'd love to hear more tech details. One thing (maybe the thing) that sets State Variable filters apart from filters with one default mode is that they can be used to patch up chaotic systems more easily....

Re: A possibly ludicrious proposition regarding waveforms an

Obviously that depends on the respective software synth program. Some can import waveforms into wavetable modules or sampling modules or granular synthesis modules. Some can't. On another note, if you're going to study or manipulate the sample on a computer, why insert a hardware oscilloscope into y...

Yes thanks for the thread wsy! moremagic, can you explain your suggestion in more detail? "...why not just add resonance to a slew by feeding it to and from a mixer, along with the signal to be slewed?" I suspect that would be close to what the Woggle Bug does. Adding "ringing" to the voltage chang...

My point was that the question of bi vs uni is NOT that important if you have fluency in modular synthesis. Not as important as it's sometimes made. Some systems are strict, like Buchla. Others have mixed bi/ uni outputs. Euro has been a big mixing mess for a decade, so why bother worrying??

Follow artists you like on Twitter and check out what they give shout outs to. This, or read interviews to see if they regularly cite their influences. I find it quite interesting - surprising even - that this is still such a topic ten years after the whole modular scene started to embrace the west coast paradigms. In Buchla systems, you got unipolar CVs and CV processors to make them bipolar if desired. End of story. Plus, most of their CV inputs ...

Re: Your experience with wavetable oscillators

Is anyone else bothered by the "choose a preset" nature of a wavetable oscillator? I got into modular to discover weird sounds and signal flows, and recently I'm feeling like a wavetable oscillator may be too "high-level" for me. I think I may want to build my waveforms with more basic components. ...

Roland just "have" to cover every niche of the market now, don't they? Where does this leave people who bought a System-m1 more or less recently? ok thanks - so I guess it's the thing responsible for the tones and child tones that come out of the wogglebug No, although some of these are produced with XOR gates. Speaking of the 300 series (dual) Woggle Bug only: The smooth and woggled tones are VCOs directly controlled by the smooth and woggl...
