Re: What would you use to complete/modify this 4U 104hp rack?

The latest Tides can do some interesting synced envelopes, and of course it's an oscillator with some fun tricks too. You'd lose Maths mixing though. You've 5/6 envelopes & 8 LFOs, that's plenty. Only thing I'm not sure about in there is the X-Pan, seems a bit overkill for a 1 oscillator synth... :)...

Re: The Disting Effect and new features for digital modules

I've been meditating ob this thread today and it's stirred up a thought, though not necessarily a novel one: There are costs to modules beyond hp, money, and power. - As mdoudoroff has elegantly articulated, one of those is cognitive overhead. How much complexity does this module, or a given featur...

1/2" 2 track was used a fair bit, but TBH never heard of 2 track on 1". If it did exist I doubt there'd be any need for Dolby SR as well.

Re: Re:

Remember to check and see if the divider is a "Musical" or "Mathematical" type. One works with the musical downbeat, the other doesn't. Easiest way to check is with a reset. On reset a musical one will have all outs going high, a mathematical one they will all go low. This makes a difference id clo...

Re: AC-coupled VCAs

Is there any true benefit to having an AC-coupled module at end of chain? I frequently run direct into audio interface from DC-coupled VCAs without any apparent problem Nope, pretty much all interfaces are AC coupled anyway, very hard to find one that isn't in fact. Those DC coupled interfaces that...

Re: New to Eurorack - how can I interface MIDI USB keyboard?

Thanks very much everyone! The Shuttle mate must also power the device too then right? Yes, it does! I factored in the additional power consumption of my KeyStep when I calculated the total power required for the modules in that rack. It makes my modular very portable and easy to set up, I just nee...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

For the guy who wants to know what the xpander is like: it's great but it doesn't have the instant wow factor you get from a prophet 5 or obx. I can't decide if that's because it's so flexible that it's hard to find the sweet spots, or if it's just not quite as great. It doesn't do the parameter lo...

Re: Do I really need a quad VCA to start?

at the very least min-max the small case you have on modulargrid and then think seriously about doubling the size. If I had to subsist on just a few VCAs in eurorack, I would simply go with having more power in software. The biggest question for me is "what can I do in eurorack that I can't in soft...

Re: Majella Audio teases IMPLEXUS

While I too think it's priced on the high side I do think it's saying it's in competition to the Microvolt is rather unfair. 2 VCOs + a sub vs 1 (and the complex VCO has far more harmonic control than the Microvolt), 2 LFOs + dedicated vibrato LFO vs 1 function generator, 2 velocity sensitive ADSRs ...

Re: Instruo Lion Matrix Mixer

Concerning the EX pins on the backside of líon, I’ve been conducting some experiments. I tried normalizing CV/GATE coming from the Doepfer system bus to inputs 5 and 6 on líon. It works as expected. Any module which sends CV to the bus (e.g. 185-1, 185-2, 190-x etc) can be picked up by líon without...

Re: Precision Adder / Octave Switcher

i’m on the hunt for a 1U precision adder so i can easily patch vibratos :( Ideally you'd use linear FM for vibrato. It sounds more natural than adding an LFO to the pitch CV which results in exponential FM. Nope, for vibrato you do want it added to the pitch CV, vibrato is not 'FM'. How would you a...

Re: Disapointing Modules

WMD modbox. I love the principle and the feature set, but the dividers feel like they just don't go low enough for be useful. The LFOs are good for near audio rate weirdness but no cop for the sort of interweaved complimentary modulations that I had in mind. The idea was great- two wigglable tempo-...

Re: Para or Poly synth to compliment Euro set up...OB6, Pro 3, P12 experience?

Re the Para / Poly thing. I've a Pro-2 and do quite often find myself playing chords on it (BTW given you've got FM between the oscillators it's a quick way of changing FM ratios on the fly :)). As it's only 4 notes I don't think you'll find the paraphony an issue, at worst you'll be playing triads ...
