Re: vecoven jx-10 vs. modern equivalents

I definitely like the jx's ability to layer; I think I like the roland filter more than the dsi (haven't heard a jx in person but have heard most of the dsi offerings and all of the juno/ jupiters in person). The JX is something I would really recommend you try out before buying, because it has hig...

Re: vecoven jx-10 vs. modern equivalents

A big part of the jx-10 is the layered structure and number of voices. Closest thing is going to be a 16 voice rev2 or the summit. Neither one has a tone that is exactly jx10. Maybe the summit is closer? I sold my mks70 with vecoven, PWM and pg800 to fund a newer synth, but the replacement I got was...

Re: One big purchase: Sequential or Deckard's?

For sure I would suggest going for the prophet 6 or ob-6 over a rev2. More complex sound design is not necessarily what is needed for a subtractive poly, but timbral variety and qualia are key. What I mean is the core tone, not the modulation. I'd say the deckards and sequentials are different enoug...

Re: Fugazi

Love their albums, but the only time I saw them live it was a disappointment.\ I grew up in the Washington DC area and was the right age to attend many local Fugazi shows. They were always amazing for local crowds. The Dischord vibe as so prevalent locally that I think pretty much anyone attending ...

Re: MPC Live II availability/impressions?

I used and sold a Hexinverter Mutant Brain, beeing sure that I can easily replicate the workflow (note repeat on several pads sending trigger each) with it. Please tell me yes ::) If you just need triggers you can setup the audio outputs with a pulse sample to do what you describe. I send clock and...

Has anyone tried any other ROMs for the R100/R50? You can burn your own ROMs
I burn my own ROMs for the R100. Making your own is the way to go. It doesn't cost much more to buy an eprom burner than it does to purchase someone's prefab ROM.

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

I've returned to my TTSH v4 build after putting aside for many months. I needed some time to vent the frustration I had with installing the switches incorrectly. They were soldered in too flush with the board and were not accessible through the face-plate so I had to remove them and replace. Some of...

Redsound Darkstar -- I figured I could sell it at an inflated price after mocking it mercilessly on the internet, and then use the money to buy an EX800.

Re: Sonic Potions LXR issue - noise when connecting trigger/clock i/o

Try rewiring the trigger expander ground to the audio ground. Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I have no DIY experience. I bought this unit already built from the seller. Find someone who can do it for you. I don't expect there is going to be any other solution. This seems to be a known/...

Get anything performed by Stanislav Richter
The Richters were both brilliant although Svatislav overshadowed the lesser known Stanislav.

The thing about Broadcast that I don't hear mentioned is that they were a phenomenal live band. I saw them multiple times every time they toured the USA. Each tour was different, and even two shows on back to back days in different cities would be different and both excellent.

Re: Waldorf Iridium

OK, I´m still don´t get it 2 Gb of sample storage or sample RAM? or it´s the same? The Iridium/Quatum load the samples into RAM or internal drive from SD/USB stick or just read directly from them? For me all this are important to my workflow The Iridium has 2 GB of flash memory in the synth. This m...

Re: Waldorf Iridium

Checking the specs.... Iridium has 2gb of sample memory. Quantum has 4gb. Prophet X has 200 gb. Haha, it's no contest. Prophet X 200 gb is how much space is on the SSD for samples. 50 gb is user, 150 gb is preset. You have to use an app to put user content on the drive. On the iridium you use an SD...

Re: Waldorf Iridium

Why are people saying you can't have multi samples in the Iridium?
I don't have one to explore (yet) but I read the manual and it is possible to set key ranges for samples.
Multiple press releases mention using the resonator on multi samples from flash memory.

Re: Difference in MIDI clock quality between DAWs?

I've tried every solution, and my favorite is the roland SBX-1. You get a standard latency and sharp timing nearly all the time, with the very rare duff buffer. Expert Sleepers is more accurate, but more finicky and I never enjoy using it. Hat's off to anyone who has it down. I've switched over to d...

Re: ableton live output Din sync?

You need a DC couple audio interface of some sort. The you can use a stereo sample -- one side with a pulse at the first then a good deal of silence. The other channel with a positive DC offset signal. One will be your clock the other your gate. The two together DIN sync make. Then you need to trigg...

Re: Why is some techno good and some bad?

The classic XoX instruments, for example, with simple 16 step sequencers. These instruments were envisaged by Herr Doktor Roland and chums as a sort of backing band for the main event, accompanying guitars and singers- not at carrying the whole track. This kinda notion gets booted around a lot, but...

Re: Software equivalent of Reface CS?

Steinberg is owned by Yamaha and some of the Cubase stock VSTs share some reface CS / An1x vibe. Retrologue and some of the Halion Modes.
If you use an iPad, yamaha synthbook has a AN2015 synth that is similar.
