Re: Capturing inspiration
Another thought though: if you have an idea and you forget it, it probably wasn't that amazing. If you have an idea and you can't get to the studio for a week and you still remember it, it's probably worth pursuing.

Re: Capturing inspiration
I just leave the studio wired up so the most I have to do is turn on a few more bits of kit in order to record either audio or midi. Harder for me is finding a couple of hours to finish the track.

Klark Teknik DN6000 is a great classic if you can find one.
There's a new one from a company called BDS, haven't used it or seen any reviews though.
TC Clarity M can be had very cheap new and looks good, review here:

Re: Mixing / compressing live jams
I don't think lack of compression is the problem here unless you are looking for some kind of effect. Mainly I would say the hihats are a bit loud and the kick is a bit quiet. To an extent you can fix this with eq. I would either get the balance right before recording, or else record at least a few ...

Surely they have got to add sampling in an update? I mean the hardware is already there, it's crazy to have inputs just for mixing in an external sound.

MATHS. because you can make a lot of cool sounds with 2 of them. I used to have 3 SH-101s in the 90s for a minute. I called myself "101 Force". They were everywhere and very cheap. I have 2 MPC1000s, one for touring ( :waah: ) and one for the studio. I have 2 TR606s just cos I saw a second one cheap...

The morphing reminds me of the DX200..... Could be really interesting but the teaser video is appalling.

I found the same thing running a 303 through a sample and hold triggered at audio rates.

A tiny bit of the main volume envelope routed to pitch can help a lot. So the note bends up a tiny tiny bit at the beginning.

Nice to see this, looks decent. Shame about there only being 4 outputs, my K2000 from 1993 or something has 8. I guess nobody but me uses external effects units any more?

Re: NI Maschine+ standalone groovebox
I am pretty sure you can make tiny loops and you can modulate start time. Not many LFOs or anything. I've never used an octatrack. You can do some modulation and effects stuff, eg. FM or frequency shifting to samples. Manual is online!

Re: First hardware compressor recs
Well my favourite is the Chiswick Reach. Used it a lot for mastering, always on the slowest attack setting. In general for electronic drums or master buss, I would be looking for a very fast limiter (eg Maselec) followed by a comp with a slow attack (dependent on material) and fast release. Nowadays...

Re: First hardware compressor recs
What do you want to use it for? Mastering? Controlling levels on vocals / acoustic recordings? Special effects / sidechain stuff?
Do you want it to sound clean? Warm? etc etc.
More specifically: fast / slow etc?

Most of my Kurzweil K2000 patches randomise some of the parameters a tiny amount for each note, especially tuning. It's surprising how even with a very digital synth this can add a really nice feel to sounds.

All those synths have a dedicated "vibrato" LFO for this purpose. You can't get LFO 1 & 2 to sync across voices.

Why don't you just pan the outputs of the two LPGs a bit less extremely? I imagine you are going into some kind of mixer? Or if direct recording, you can narrow the stereo image of the recording easily enough.

Re: Strange behaviour
Have tried different cables. Resonance only doing what it should, I mean even with res at zero, audio frequency VCO into the CV inputs of the filters is coming out of the outputs. I haven't changed my modular set up or moved it in years. Maybe something somewhere is dying / has died. I guess i will ...
