Re: MOTM / Modcan Cabinet Options

There are a few power supply thread on here, some of them stickeyed. Most power supplies that you buy from manufacturers (like MOTM or Dotcom) are from Power One. You can find used Power One supplies on eBay pretty cheap, that's how I've powered my cabinets. IEC connector to Power One supply(s), to ...

No cables included with my stuff (but it was all dotcom.) I asked about cables but they never replied.

It's not THAT much more than Euro, if you compare them 1:1. Buy what you want to be playing in 5 years, otherwise you'll buy twice.

Re: MOTM / Modcan Cabinet Options

I'm about to build my own 40-space Dotcom cabinet. I'm adding a "box" to the bottom of it so that the bottom row has room for whatever module I want to put there.

Re: Dove Audio MuSeq

Microprocessor control can do some cool things, like randomization, built-in LFOs, saving, etc. I think the GRP R24 hits the sweet spot of user interface and digital control. I had a (Euro) Audio Damage Sequencer that did some things really well and other things less well, though it was designed to ...

Re: FSFX Topographic Drum Sequencer

I guess I don’t get it. It’s a preset trigger sequencer with modulation? I guess I’d rather program my own patterns. I liked your second demo better, I felt like I was hearing more of your own composition there. Do you just use it as an added modulation source to add some rhythmic accents to a patch...

VCO and digital are two different sounds. Once you embrace that it’s just another color in your arrangement.

Re: Dove Audio MuSeq

I tried to scan through a few pages of blogs to figure out what this is. With all of the displays and based on demos, it appears to be an expensive 8-step sequencer. It seems like with the software control it could easily be a 16- or 24-step sequencer. Just make another 2 rows of LEDs and you could ...

Re: Any advice on a DOTCOM paraphonic configuration...?

A polysynth, monosynth, and modular are three completely different instruments and approaches to me. I would start with a good 1-voice system and multitrack that, which is what the old Stevie Wonder records mostly did with TONTO if you listen closely. If you're a beginner then a 1-voice system might...

Re: Where do people buy/sell 5U these days (UK/EU)?

That ModularGrid marketplace is cool because you can sort by format and country. I wish Muffs would add tags like that to the marketplace.

I've had good experiences buying and selling on this board, though.

TONTO was 10-voice so you only need to build something half that size.

Re: What are your 5U plans for the weekend?

Designing my new cabinet. I'm making a 40MU cabinet because I already have a 24U MOTM cabinet and I want them to match. But I'm designing the bottom row to have enough space for any module (the deepest I've found are 7.1" Synth-Werk modules.) And practicing piano.

Re: B 55 V Moog 3C

Yeah I want to get a TZ. I was holding onto a Euro rig just for the FM on the Make Noise DPO, but when I heard the TZ I decided to dump all Euro and just go all in on 5U. I wasn't making much music on the Euro system, just noises once in a while, but the 5U gets used much more. I have a 3-osc MOTM s...

Re: COTK - Dotcom Power wiring

COTK is ±12V, is there a voltage divider on that homemade converter? Maybe you can check with the person who sold it to you, or plug in just the adapter and measure the voltage coming out of the COTK end? The "power distribution" thread stickied on top of this board might be helpful?

Re: Duty/tariff on synth modules?

Yeah, hopefully I won't get dinged but I want to put something aside just in case.

Also the 12.5% is for stuff coming from China (5% duty + 7.5% tariff), so it will probably be less than that.

Gehrhard said HTS code is 9207.10.80 but that doesn't seem to exist. But 9207.10.** is usually combined tariff and duty of 12.5%

Anyone know the USA duty and tariff rates for synth modules, or what the HTS code is?

Maybe I'll get lucky and not get charged, but I want to have money set aside in case. Thanks.

Re: Do 5U modules come with power cables?

I alrready have some power supplies I want to use, and I was planning on building distribution boards and power cables to plug into those. But maybe I'll just buy a QDH, wire it into a terminal block with the power supply, and be done.

Do 5U modules come with power cables?

All of my MOTM modules included power cables, but so far none of my Dotcom format ones have. Synth-werk quoted me 8 Euro each. Guess I'm finally buying an MTA tool.
