Re: Anyone heard back from Mos-Lab lately?

I haven't dealt with him in years but when I did, it always ended well. Back then, he would respond to mail once a week or so and was probably in the midst of producing/shipping fair volume at the time. He tends to go underground from time to time but for good reasons. And yeah, his Web site is pret...

Two comments. 1. John is a champ for posting those pics. Knowing him, he took apart his module just to take pictures for you. 2. I'm shocked by the build quality of the module pictured above. I have a 525CP that I bought early on and found the solder job to be shoddy at best. Sloppy, inconsistent, p...

One other thing to try; the 921 (integrated OSC) to see if it plays in tune by itself. If it's off by the same margin, then all of your OSCs are probably improperly calibrated or (most likely), it's the keyboard voltage drooping on you. Also, have you tried the left 921b versus the right 921b? When ...

Is the 55 still being made? I see Moog recently took it off the website. I'm not sure they ever sold them direct (not like the old days). On their new fancy site which for the life of me I cannot get used to, they have a link to their dealer network so it's probably a matter of finding a dealer tha...

There is no functional difference between the Dotcom Q960 COTK C960 MOS-LAB 960 (A) they are all identical Moog Clones with the hidden reset function right? I can't speak to the COTK but the MOS-LAB offers a built in dual trigger bus which I highly recommend (it costs an additional 100 Euro but wor...

I'm not here to come to Moog's defense but I can tell you that they are using films from the original PCB and that is a feature, not a flaw. I'll also tell you that the original MOS-LAB modules (which I actually prefer vs. the newly manufactured PCBs) used hand (chemical) etched single sided PCBs (s...

Thanks for the reply. I have all that. Let me ask another way. Is there a 'live play' mode where you can press multiple step buttons to play live, e.g. TR-09. Seems like as much as they've added under the covers, there is no obvious way to this. I have MASCHINE and get that I can tap beats into the ...

Quick TR-08 question: Live play mode?

I know the original did not, but, hidden in the feature of the TR-08, is there a live play mode where you can either play a single drum sound (while tuning) or to tape out a beat live (not sequence).

Thanks.

I can't speak to the TR-08 but if it's anything like the TR-09, it's simply another instrument 'track' sitting next to the drum tracks so any pattern can contain trigger out. I've used it to trigger a BD-808 that I built from the DIY forum successfully so it must be a euro compatible trigger. I'll s...

High quality multi contact switch?

Looking for a 2 pole switch for routing line level balanced audio between two endpoints. There are A/B/Y switch boxes galore and perhaps one of those might be good, but I'm curious about other switches such as the type used in Lehle foot pedals or in Coleman Audio switchers. They seem to be what I i...

How about a thread entitled "A Serious Discussion on Osc Topology" that walks through examples of Hz/V, linear, Expo in driver vs. OSCs etc etc. By somebody that actually understands the theory of design because they've examined schematics and put these on scopes (Tek of course); maybe somebody like...

One thing I noticed is the drift across that large octave range between the base notes and the upper notes. Agree that the sequence is fast but also wanted to throw in that a aggressive cutoff, any resonance and a fast moving envelope further masks the OSC characteristics. Unless the two sawtooth wa...

Is the pitch that you hear rather high (or midrange?) I ask this because if the base voltage is calibrated incorrectly, any volt coming 'in' while you are trying to play will all be out of range of what the Minitaur is capable of. Akin to playing with a Midi keyboard up the range then running out of...

I had the same problem with tracking via CV with a new Minitaur. Emailed Moog and never got a response. I must have tried calibrating the thing 15-20 times. I finally got it to kind of work, but never 100%. Was a frustrating experience and just ended up using midi. I haven't done it in a while but ...

That (those) things are ridiculous and I mean that in the best possible way. For as simple and satisfying as the PCB build must be, the amount of point-to-point wiring to all of the panel mounted components must be a back breaker. No wonder they demand so much $$ when properly pre-built for sale. Re...

Somebody might have mentioned it but the Mutable Instruments MidiPal is handy for Poly key distribution. And if you have a 4 channel Midi-CV like Stacey's (HexInverter), you can use both and get it all to play with your modular, relatively low cost.

Watching CZ's video above challenges my understanding of the diff between the 901 and 921 designs. Just read the Sweetwater web page. Retailers probably just released on schedule and Moog is late getting their web presence together. btw: spring for the extra $$ and get yourself the S Patch plus. I have one and it is integral to my home setup. The selector switch on the front panel is indispensable (removes the dependency to pull it from the rack or worse (to disassemble and flip individual channels like the legacy patch bays)).
