Re: Live/studio Surround

that is a topic of interest. I have always wanted to do acoustic mixing with speaker arrays, but you know, as practical things go.. not quite one of them. Conversely, not a huge fan of surround sound entertainment, whatever that means. In my current iteration (incomplete but in place and soon to be ...

Re: How did you pick your sequencer?

the hard way. I cant imagine another way besides experiencing a few and seeing what does what, and for how many peanuts. I always wanted to play with knob laden sequencers, but they were absolute hen's teeth for a few decades. Onboard digital memory sequencing on certain flashier polys was not the r...

Re: Midi Pickups for Guitars

Short answer for working with rack mount MIDI synths should be GM-70 and either a Roland guitar or a GK-1 pickup. The pickups may be scarcer than practical, and the guitars are beginning to price themselves out of practicality, People are throwing big pricetags on ugly later G-707's that nobody want...

Re: *** Vintage dealers taking the piss on used market ***

The skyrocketing price tag and GAS of technoraving TB303 wannabe owners pretty much drove the resurgence of analog synth reproductions and lit the fire for modular manufacturers of the future. The unbridled and unjustifiable greed of flippers made the vintage synth market treacherous. How many four ...

Re: What do I need to switch between CV (modulation) sources going to a single CV input?

Doepfer 150-8 put me in push button control of everything I needed, with groupable switches, trigger and gate compatibility and enough switches to get almost everything done. I can shut the whole thing off, start all in perfect sync every time, shut aspects off or switch clock divisions. One of the ...

Re: Live Processing of Electric Guitar

I suppose Doeper 119 with a chip upgrade is too obvious a suggestion, but once I started passing guitar through mine it became the best sounding guitar amp I have. Plenty subjective, but as far as a decent clean tone goes, more than adequate and hardly fair to mangle it with a modular but it sure be...

Doepfer 119 w/chip upgrade, 137 and 141. Got a free foot(s) for a CV and/or volume pedal into the 137?
seems like these would be useful to modify the guitar sound and provide some voltage response from your playing dynamics.

Re: Which module controls do you tweak the most?

I dont know if I am slave or master to CV, but the less I personally mess with it, the better. I find attenuators and switches to be the crucial modules, basically substitutes for mixers and hands that I dont have enough of. Using basic switches in between a ribbon controller and a theremin style pr...

Envelopes on the right mostly, if their design offers best access to knobs thusly. In deference to the typical patch point locations to the left of knobs on the right side of the module, EG's being on the right contains patch cables to this side of the knobs. The sad part is, were I hunting and peck...

Re: What to do with Doepfer A100 9u case

setup.jpg Id say vice versa (pardon me, I thought you said you had an LC9). Recommend a P6 or some such, anytime. Cases with handles on top are probably a challenge for the LC9. or LC6 etc, but they have no problem supporting other cases with the corresponding footprint. An LC6 underneath would wor...

Re: What is the critical mass of a synthesizer?

All I can be sure of, is it starts with a seed. Sunday night a bassoonist named Peter dropped another Moog in my lap, but first he handed me this near mint reader/record of the studio that germinated my prime directive-if theyre gonna drag me out of this room someday, it will be into a very similar ...

Re: analog synth vs midi controller

as long as you have a MIDI in available on whatever accessories you are working with. Im not familiar with that product, but if it is semi modular it might play well with eurorack accessories regardless of MIDI. MIDI and CV are digital and analog analogs :)

Re: analog synth vs midi controller

If i want to control modular synths with a midi keyboard i need a board with cv/ gate and not midi right? Maybe an analogue synth for the start would be good and anyway a good add on to my later system? I just looked at the korg ms20 mini. I like the sounds. But it has only midi in and no outs. How...

Re: analog synth vs midi controller

rude and wrongful advice there. I did't want to come across as rude and maybe I got the initial question wrong. But I interpreted the question like "will it make a difference in sound if I send MIDI notes from a MIDI controller or from an analog synth?" Hence I assumed that the OP probably doesn't ...

Re: analog synth vs midi controller

rude and wrongful advice there. MIDI is not the same as CV and the most expressive controllers using CV are superior to their newer MIDI counterparts in some respects. I cant imagine trying to krautrock with MIDI substituted for analog sequencers. setting expense aside, anyway. many analog synths of...

it took a long time to think of a use or strategy involving colored patch cables. The best I can come up with is keeping the sequencer/switch/quantizer/vco/vcf and EG patch chains of a particular sound a little more obvious. Probably most useful to me for grabbing the right sequencer knobs at the ba...

I think one of the features of the 3000 that is especially interesting is the keyboard itself, and not simply because of the extraordinary pitch bending plates. The keyboard features a "staccato" button that I believe removes some sort of limitation on the trigger to defeat bounce or something? I va...
