I would try the WMD quad anti-aliasing filter. It’s a Butterworth filter without resonance, just like in the Modcan Super Delay.

The PWM circuit only works with waveforms containing discontinuities. Sawtooth and square/pulse waves work well. Otherwise, it will just produce self-oscillation.

I’m planning an Operator pair for similar purposes, but I’m adding a PLL with an optional modulo function for constraining frequency multiples to an octave. For me, the primary advantage of PM over FM is that the unmodulated VCO output can be used in a control loop.

Does the VCA function?

Synthcube offers them but they are usually out of stock. The Blacet site may look old but there is nothing to worry about.

Are all other knobs on the mixer turned down as in the photo? The audio and CV inputs to channel one are normally connected to channels 2-4. Is the result the same if you take your audio output from the channel 1 output rather than the sum output?

Turn down the gain. That is your minimum setting.

What’s is the nature of the pitch instability? Does it drift, or is it wildly erratic?
The only stability issues that I ever had with Modcan modules were due to failed potentiometers. Those controls were wildly erratic.

Try everything. The A-196 provides each functional block of the PLL, but it also allows the use of alternate circuits. Try a different phase comparator. Insert frequency dividers and other signal processors. PLL patches are interesting because of the unique properties of these functional blocks.

If you use a bipolar LFO as an input to a DC-coupled 4-quadrant multiplier you will get amplitude modulation, but the gain will be modulated between -1 and +1 rather than 0 and +1 (assuming the correct voltage swing).

If you just need to reconstruct standard VCO waveshapes, there is a circuit that should work, but there is no commercial version.

Right, 0-5 is more than enough for the TM-2 filter CV, but the VCA circuits want more than 5v to open fully. Generally, these pentode VCAs work best with a CV range from slightly negative (-1 or 2v for full attenuation) to +10v or more.
