Re: tips on authentic 80's pop production

Right now I'm working on a sort of Whitney Houston/madonna upbeat/uptempo thing.

Some of the songs I've been working on are cartoonishly 80's, some are more mature, and some only borrow certain elements of sounds from the 80's but otherwise sound like electronica

Re: tips on authentic 80's pop production

What about music theory? What scales/chord progressions are popular beyond the usual ones?

Re: Weird Matrix-6 Midi problem and a general philosophical question about older hardware

Thanks for the input guys, I guess I'm going to just get the synth serviced whenever things open back up again.

It's also making a clicking noise between patches. Don't know what that's about....

Re: Weird Matrix-6 Midi problem and a general philosophical question about older hardware

SO midi ox doesn't detect any outgoing messages from the M6 so at this point I'm thinking the issues has something to do with how the midisport, renoise, and M6 specifically interact. So uh....that's progress.

I ran the calibration routine, and yes it's the Kb version. I'll try the midi ox thing

Weird Matrix-6 Midi problem and a general philosophical question about older hardware

When I want to sequence some midi from my comp to my hardware synths I use a beat-up old Uno midisport. It's about 15 years old and it's been dropped a few times but it works consistently. Y'know....after I plug it in then pull it out and plug it in again (I don't know if I installed the drivers in ...

Re: tips on authentic 80's pop production

More good advice, cool.

So by "layering" do you guys mean overdubs of different synths or literally just overlapping the same recording or sample twice to fatten it up?

No I won't be including vocals in this. Sequencing notes over live ones is part of my music anyway.

tips on authentic 80's pop production

So I'm making a sort of throwback 80's bit of music. Here's the methods I've been using with a moderate degree of success: -Using analog synths out the ass including 2 from the 80's -Chorus and reverb used generously -Use of samples of LinnDrum LM1, 707, CR78 etc -Gated reverb snares on most downbea...

uhm, I just press EDIT and then 7 and transpose it that way.

I'm not....really sure how you're transposing it, or uh....what you're doing. :despair:

Re: Korg Opsix

Awesome. So we have this and: -Digitone -Volca FM -Argon8 -Hydrasynth -Wavestate -probably others I can't remember Does this mean FM/digital synthesis is becoming popular again? Or dare I say it, could we have new Digital/FM synths and analog synths being released at the same time in equal measure??...

Re: behringer model d vs poly d

I would buy the Poly D if only for the reason that the model D's knobs are too close together for a 6 foot person with large hands (like me) it's one of my pet peeves when it comes to any gear.

It'll never happen but I'd like to see a Re-Release/Behringer clone of the FS1R.

Re: Is the Alpha Juno 2 really that tedious to program without the PG-300?

Ok I have quick follow-up question. I'm looking at an AJ2 online that's in great condition, but the thing I'm wondering about is--it's got a LCD/LEC upgraded screen: https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--ZoUX_3SQ--/f_auto,t_large/v1576867712/yf09ceksm7izrmnvjeio.jpg I've never had a modified/cus...

Re: Is the Alpha Juno 2 really that tedious to program without the PG-300?

If that's really the case then why not save up some money for something like a Prophet-600 or Chroma Polaris? Or honestly the Pro-6? The alpha juno is probably the most sterile and modern sounding Roland poly--just because it's "vintage" doesn't mean it will sound any better than the newer polys. I...

Re: Is the Alpha Juno 2 really that tedious to program without the PG-300?

As others have mentioned, I think the alpha wheel implementation is actually pretty good. You can actually scroll through the parameters with the wheel really quickly, which makes programming relatively breezy all considering. I've had multiple junos and while they all kind of sound samey, somethin...

Re: Is the Alpha Juno 2 really that tedious to program without the PG-300?

Well, I can tolerate some knob-per-function-less-ness (it's a real term I swear!) seeing as how my favorite synth ever is probably the DX7II. There's a guy who's asking $575 for one locally, but I bet I can get him down to $500. Which is still probably overpriced, but it is in nice shape and I would...

Is the Alpha Juno 2 really that tedious to program without the PG-300?

I mean it's a great-sounding synth from what I can tell, I'm just wondering if that's why they're still (relatively) cheap.
