Re: Grayscale Mutable clones aren’t open source anymore?

there is something called viral licensing in the FOSS community. remember steve balmer famously said "open source is like a cancer". it forces you to open source your proprietary intellectual property or face lawsuits simply because you used a piece of open source software that is virtually worthle...

Re: Grayscale Mutable clones aren’t open source anymore?

I mean what the hell? We’re free to use someone else’s work, but now we own it? That doesn’t make any sense. As much as I’d like Buchla versions of Mutable modules, I won’t be giving any money to a company who doesn’t abide by the proper license agreements in order to make a quick buck off of someo...

Re: How to create gate from trigger?

I've got a quadrax and in LFO mode I can trigger it and a some kind of gated envelope there but the shape and fall controls and doing something a lot more complicated than just increasing the length. Yeah, the labels are somewhat misleading in Burst and LFO modes. I suppose you could use LFO mode w...

Ladik's offerings are extensive to say the least. Maybe it's me missing something but why are they not getting more attention?
Because he's not doing any flashy big stuff, that's why. Seems to be more interested in clever little utility modules.

Too bad it doesn't do individual lenghts. But it still seems like a really nice module - the only real alternative (HP-size and functions and feel) seems to be the Knit Rider, or is that an entirely different experience? Uh, are you meaning the Popcorn? Because the Knit Rider isn't even a CV sequen...

There's the Hinton Trimmer, but it's 14HP. Or the Mazzatron GainOffsetMix, but it's 4 channels only. I suppose that if I really needed more than 4 channels of gain >1 attenuversion that badly and it wasn't a set-and-forget situation I'd bite the bullet and go for the former. Well, or you start looki...

Re: Doepfer A-130-8 Octal VCA

I could imagine the A-150-8 to spur a trend towards passive zero-HP components or specialized patch cables (along with the upcoming Instruo Lion). Won’t the koma attenuator cable do the job here? https://koma-elektronik.com/?product=koma-attenuator-cable Yes, in terms of functionality. The question...

Re: Battle of the modern day 2018/2019 sequencer

My suspicion is that any of these are going to come with such extreme (but distinct) tradeoffs that a DAW like Ableton is simply going to blow it out of the water in terms of easy of use and workflow. Also note the new Keystep Pro. I'd argue that this is a problem with all choices in the above poll...

Re: Battle of the modern day 2018/2019 sequencer

What does this group think the best choice would be for a keyboard player? For example, I know that Hermod allows you to "play" directly into it. As always with sequencers, there is no "best" choice as it's basically impossible to agree on a "canonical" feature set. While out of the big functionali...

Not quite sure what "analog" vs "digital" is supposed to mean as far as quantizers. I mean, a quantizer is basically an ADC.

Re: 12hp left in a percussion palette - effects?

I'd probably use those 12HP for modulation CV sequencing for the BIA. Mimetic Digitalis is 10HP, that would leave 2HP for some little effect.

I'd argue that there's a certain logic to getting two Dixies, but not to play them in unison but to have them modulate each other - basically using them as a single complex osc.

Re: Doepfer A-130-8 Octal VCA

Noob question.. How does this work with no level pot? Is it just off to full fucking volume? Same as every VCA, you modulate the volume by manipulating the CV signal. That being said, I guess the A-150-8 is the end of the "you can never have enough VCAs" era and the beginning of the "you can never ...

Pretty sure you mean AND, not OR.
Yeah you are correct Arneb. I don't know why I always mix them up.
Probably because it goes against the intuition of natural language. I mean, in casual talk "something and something else" isn't less than "something or something else".

Re: Pitch Bend with Joystick

If you use an Or logic module with the output of your joystick and a static voltage of 2 semitones (i believe ~.1667v) you would cap the maximum at 2 semi tones but you only need to push the joystick a very small amount to hit this max. So it's really up to you and how you want to use it. Pretty su...

No. Unlike passive components, the op amps of a unity mixer or buffered mult can't just be plugged in backwards and function the same.

Would you prefer beginner modular users to go about this like beginner computer users and try to get a DC offset by sticking a patch cable into the busboard?
