Re: Clockwork orange soundtrack phaser sound

It's more probably this one:

The oblong box on top of the Ampex, next to the lamp -- that's the Bode Klangumwandler.

I'll probably get sued for posting this picture.

Re: Clockwork orange soundtrack phaser sound

Given the date of the movie isn't this most likely to be a Biphase or Phase-90? And while I'm a huge phaser fan so far as this music goes I think presentation in the original form is far superior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYELAu9hqdU Since the album was recorded in approx. 1970, the advent of...

It's about time to bring on in that Ted Nugent fellow for some extra bit of fun.

[...] I can't say I ever heard a 12/16 stage that I can remember? Which are that? I might be wrong but I think the EMS Synthi Hi-Fli has a 16-stage phase shifter built in. I didn't count every single stage but this section of the EMS sounded amazing. But not amazing enough to make me keep it. Stephen

Re: Phasers

I always thought the PH-830 sounded a bit tame compared to the later Roland SPH-323.[...] Funny you mention the 323 -- when I tried one out, I thought it was pretty bland and lacking the vowely squelchiness of the 830. The 323 reminded me of the Phase Shifter module in the System 100m -- useful but...

I like my Roland PH830.
Same here.

I'll throw in Mutron Biphase and Compact Phasing A, even though they are neither12- nor 16-stage phasers.

Just finished reading the manual and there are some curious mistakes: triangle waves ID'd as sawtooth, bad description of how the Frequency Sliders work, descriptions of non-existent 'blending' capabilities (particularly with the Envelope Follower and Ring Mod sections). Who's doing the proof-readi...

Re: New Wendy Carlos biography

Wendy Carlos and Mike Oldfield both experienced the worst thing that can happen to an artist: instant world-wide fame. No one who hasn't gone through this can understand how traumatic this experience can be to a sensitive person. Not a lot of people know that she was actively trying to break into t...

I found myself listening to S-OB the other night (the Sony Gold Master CD, in that oblong box), and even though I find some of the performances a bit bland, and some of the timbres used a bit meh! , the final movement of Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is still giving me shivers running up and down my sp...

1/2" 2 track was used a fair bit, but TBH never heard of 2 track on 1". If it did exist I doubt there'd be any need for Dolby SR as well.
