Re: Mellotron options

Picking up this thread with a simple question : does one of these modern iterations of the Mellotron play samples for more than 7 seconds ? I'd like to play it with uninterrupted sounds, in a drone mode.. Cheers ! Get yourself a cheap sampler with looped sounds, that would be the answer to your que...

It should be analogue, of course :sarcasm: .

Re: W...T...F...BARP 2500?

well B just spent a bunch of R&D time on a new pin matrix for the VCS3 clone, so it is only logical that they would look at other synths that used them hopefully it's a bit smaller than the original :D I tend to say that the EMS Ghielmetti matrix has nothing to do with the 2500's Cherry matrix whic...

Re: W...T...F...BARP 2500?

ARP 2500 the world's most desirable synthesiser? I beg to differ.

After the EMS Synthi 100, it is probably the most unwieldy and least practical of all modular synthesisers, with that silly patching system which is everything but intuitive.

It does look impressive, that's true.

Re: What new booty did you buy?

Pretty nifty analogue delay, a bit reminiscent of a Volvo in terms of build quality (pre-China days, of course):

To me, it's a good deal nicer than a Yamaha E-1010.

the putney -- my new download-only album, released on 4th july 2020

Hi all, not exactly sure whether to announce this release here or in the Your Noise Here department, I thought I'd have a go at it and have the moderators decide whether it's appropriately placed or not: https://doombientmusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-putney A 74-minute album, created fully on a Mk. 1...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

Thank you very much for sharing this helpful information, gentlemen. Much obliged. Not sure whether I'm going to attempt fixing it myself -- if it is just prying the original lamp from the enclosure and soldering two leads to the replacement light, I'm convinced I could do it. I'd leave anything mor...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

There's no hurry, thanks for your prompt support and advice -- much appreciated. The lightbulbs I used when fixing the Korgs were the size of the head of a match, with two wires attached. I think they were something like 12V. I think I also used these to replace burnt-out bulbs in the VUs of Space a...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. Just like I expected it to be -- the locking washer seems to be the fun part. Is it just under tension, or has it been glued to the enclosure in some way, too? What type of bulb does it use btw.? Is it similar to those tiny bulbs that Korg used for their indicator ...

VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?

Hi all, apparently, the light bulb (or whatever it is) in the Trapezoid section of my VCS-3 has died after some fifty years of labour. Can anybody tell me what type of replacement I need and where to obtain it from? Unfortunately, it is mounted in a way that its part number and type can hardly be re...

Re: Schmidt Eight Voice Analog Synth

I think the Schmidt has two major drawbacks:

a) it is as rare as hen's teeth, I don't even know whether it is still in production;

b) it is quite intimidating to look at and operate (in my opinion).

That left aside, I'm quite sure it's a great synthesiser.

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date

You can use the lid of the 2600 for making a neat table for 2600 with keyboard to sit on. Yes! You can even make it into a portable stand with 4 legs. The hardware stores in the 70s sold these square metal plates with a raised circular ridge and a central threade hole. These were made in two types,...

Re: Korg Arp 2600 Arrival Date

I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow. What stands are people using? I'm assuming a typical spider style 2 tier stand would work well? A solid X-type stand with double bars should do the trick -- I suspect the Spider's traverses to be too short. You can use the lid of the 2600 for making a neat table ...

When I found Digital Moonscapes at a record store, I was excited. After listening to it, I couldn't help thinking that this was easily one of the worst pieces of music I had ever listened to. Sonic Seasonings … it must count as one of the first ambient music albums of all times but, to me, it sounde...

There seems to be another biography, written by someone who apparently did not know too much about synthesisers (and who wanted to stylize Wendy Carlos as some kind of gender role model for up and coming transsexuals in the first place): https://www.perfectcircuit.com/33-1-3-wendy-carlos-switched-on...
