Re: EMS KS. Unobtanium?
Yeah, this is exactly what I think. The clone is going to have to be in some other kind of case all together. What should happen is a redesign that does does the same thing in the same way even. I would think most of any demand that’s out there for a newly available KS will be coming from Synthi ow...

Re: EHX 16-Second Delay Repair?
I agree, it could just be some cap.. also, if you can, please check the voltages on the rails, you should have +12V and -15V, also +5V for the digital section I will start here. The problem is, the PCBs barely fit into the enclosure and everything is jammed in there about as tight as can be. This m...

Re: EHX 16-Second Delay Repair?
It’s a f#cling awesome effect, I can tell you that much; I’ve been looking for one I could afford for more than 10 years. Wouldn’t you know it, I finally found one, actually had the cash, and I only got to use it only a few days before it started dying. Besides the lovely delay loop sound itself, th...

Re: EHX 16-Second Delay Repair?
Ok, I’ll try to describe the issue. Basically it was working fine, until I noticed that it would take a minute or so to sort of warm up one day, and every day thereafter. The delay wouldn’t sound for about a minute, and then it would slowly come back in, distorted and bit-crunched at first. This wen...

EHX 16-Second Delay Repair?
I recently acquired one of the 80s version 16-Second Delays that began dying (losing delay signal) almost as soon as I got it. I’ve been writing and calling several of the more well known music electronic repair places and have yet to find a single place willing to work on it for me. I do routine ma...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?
The board B trimmers for the envelope shouldn't affect the lamp behaviour. It’s been about 5 years now, And I’m just relying on memory. On reflection, it’s entirely possible the LED and zener did most of the work. I also may have been misinterpreting what seemed like a give and take happening betwe...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?
I am looking for something as close to the original style indicator housing as possible (I will either fit a neon or an led with the mods) I’ve seen at least half a dozen different indicators used on Synthi’s from different years and production runs. Those “morning mist” painted panel Synthi’s (as ...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?
I wish I can improve the behaviour on mine a little bit .. so it will get a tad more dim when not triggered. After quite a bit of tinkering, I was able to “trim” away this behavior on mine using the Board b trims. I think it became easier to fine tune after I replaced my lamp with an LED. That said...

Re: VCS-3 / Synthi-A trapezoid generator indicator light?
You just have to look, you can usually find something close on eBay if you have the right search. Dialight/Dialco made a lot of similar panel indicators for Moog and Buchla. Bulgin may have made the indicators for EMS. Many of the same lamps (and other things) were used in British made guitar amps a...

Here’s a similar red indicator, without bezel, with retaining clip:

Re: Phutney clone
hey Phutney Builders, how's your experience with NOS trannies and tropical fish caps compared to modern equivalents. is it worth the time and money? My subjective opinion is the same as above; yes to original transistors, but no significant improvement from tropical fish caps in the VCF. I tried se...

E9F218EB-70E6-4DF3-8016-C1BDF8385DA0.jpeg If anyone has a nice high res photo of the back of the KS' pcb I can take an honest crack at it and make the adjustments for the shift register fiasco. There is currently an updated (for lack of better term) KS one-off prototype using available parts and te...

Re: Haible Son of Storm Tide in 4u
Do you have a panel design for it? I’ve been planning to make a SOST for about 10 years, but the feature set is so dense, it’s not the easiest circuit to lay out a nice panel for. I like the BBD Haible used in this design, think it’s comparable to SAD1024 or TCA350. This makes a huge difference in t...

Re: EMS Synthi Battery Pack
I wish there were more info/schematics on these early case side controllers. Looks as if it was a passive controller. I believe the “keyboard” was resistive, yes? And the “random voltage generator” was just a mechanical roulette wheel that would land on a random resistance value probably. AX wasn't ...

Re: PPG waves in eurorack wavetable oscillators?
I’ve also gone down this road with wavetable modules and I don’t think any of these modules really get the feel of what I consider a PPG wave/ wave computer etc type sound simply because they’re mostly all monophonic oscillators and to me the PPG sound is inherently polyphonic, chords and pads. Some...

F7F190F7-9AAA-472E-898A-74E3A2465A81.jpeg I was able to fix a lot of the unwanted noise by adjusting the channel output gain trims on PCB X. I’m sure I’ve done so in the past, but for whatever reason, I realized the gains were up too high once again. I typically play the phutney through a board and...

Re: sample/hold for minimoog?
Not what you’re asking. But, maybe worth noting, there’s already a dedicated S/H designed for the Minimoog, although it was a stand alone accessory device and much more complex than the circuit above. But I bet it’s worth the extra effort, as it seems like a really well designed, full featured contr...

I regularly use a graphic eq to notch out 10db of noise at 500Hz, 630Hz, 800Hz, 1k Hz, 1k25 Hz, 1k6 Hz, and then scoop out another 15db of hum at 200hz using parametric eq on my board. After all this, I get a relatively quiet ground floor output. I’ve often been told the Synthi is a very Noisey inst...

Re: Synthi options
I wanted an authentic Synthi experience, but also felt it was too ridiculous spending $700 (or more) on a 16x16 or 20x20 ghielmetti (even though a 20x20 would make an awesome super-Synthi). For a one-off diy build, to me it seemed the best reasonably-priced compromise was an ‘off the shelf’ 15x15 (w...

Re: [Korb-Modular] Online-Shop launched
I’m a little frustrated with a Korb Pusher I bought second hand. I noticed two of the FSRs were occasionally intermittent, so I removed the panel to get my multimeter probes in there. While removing the panel the two intermittent FSRs severed at the panel cutout, and by the time I carefully got the ...
