Re: Amp/Cab Sims, Direct Recording (Niall Goes Gearslutz)

Aye, Tom, it’s a real quagmire of options and research. There’s definitely something to be said for getting on with it!

Re: Favorite looper pedals?

There’s a lot to like about the Pigtronix Infinity, but I find its operation fiddly, and after deleting a loop when I was trying to save it one too many times, I boxed it up. I just acquired a Boomerang III, and I liked it plenty for the few minutes I’ve had to spend with it. I want that damned side...

Re: Amp/Cab Sims, Direct Recording (Niall Goes Gearslutz)

That's helpful, thanks - are you recording the output direct, or micing up a speaker, too? [Edit: The Helix looks nothing short of amazing. Holy shit, will you look at all those sends. You can place those anywhere arbitrarily in the signal chain and free up DSP by looping out to other pedals, channe...

Amp/Cab Sims, Direct Recording (Niall Goes Gearslutz)

Electric guitar's not my main thing, but I have a need for some clean-ish rockabilly and early country twang stuff... and zero desire to deal with moving and micing combo amps, let alone cabinets, etc. There are a lot of rack and floor solutions out there, but all the demos I'm seeing are shredder a...

Re: Echoplex Digital Pro: Any Opinions in 2020?

Aye, I've felt the Looperlative's pull, as well. I'm not crazy about the UX as I've seen it, but it does look very compelling for its price. Auresis Research is, IIRC, still in business, but perhaps isn't developing anything new for Loop. I'm too old and life's too short for a steep learning curve; ...

Re: Still looking for my PPG...

I gather you want polyphony, but if a monophonic solution works for you, there’s always the Momowave, designed by Paula Maddox, who probably knows more about the Wolfgang Palm approach to wavetable synthesis than just about anyone. It’s available again in kit form, it seems: https://elby-designs.co...

Re: What defines this?

fyi it actually did used to be 'Buchla, EMS, Serge & Wiard' at one time (i seem to recall its tag-line being "the expensive stuff" or something like that). it was at the point when Grant passed the torch to Cary, so to speak, and the Wiard company was relocated to Wessex, UK that the MW Wiard manuf...

Echoplex Digital Pro: Any Opinions in 2020?

I’ve always been curious about the Oberheim and Gibson EDP. The LOOP software looks comprehensive - daunting, even. Buy or pass for an EDP newb in 2020?

Re: What defines this?

It was just a catch-all for (at the time) formats that were tightly coupled with specific manufacturers who, for various reasons, weren’t sufficiently online (or interested) to justify their own su forums. If Grant Richter weren’t engaged with MW early on, Wiard would probably be here, too (but then...

I should say also that I'm in 4u-land over here. The Euro DUSG has some extra features that are closer to parity with the the Maths, but only some.

Re: First Serge module

Random*Source's current-generation "Mk2" slope generators boast temperature compensation; others, as far as I know, do not. DUSG has a v/o input, while the Maths doesn't. I don't know what you mean by "waveshaping capability." The onus is on you to back up your assertions, not to direct us to YouTu...

Anyway you can have Clouds and Metasonix in 4u,,, and who needs Maths if have all sorts of DUSGs
I'd totally take at least one Maths in 4u; it's a really smartly-edited selection of features and capabilities.

Re: First Serge module

It's superior to Maths where their functions overlap. DUSG user and fan here but very curious how you would justify this statement (besides efficacy in the audio range). Audio range response, oscillator stability (the R*S version has temperature compensation), and waveshaping capability. Random*Sou...

Re: Synths, Loopers Line Mixers and Performance

Aye, no great love for the Octatrack, here, but I know other people who credit it highly for their own productivity. It just never clicked with me. I do wonder if there’s a point where you have more sources than makes working with a two-track looper worthwhile, and just using a laptop or something m...

Re: Synths, Loopers Line Mixers and Performance

I'm especially interested in how modular-centric people use loopers with drones, etc. I'm not as concerned about transitions and clicks as much as the challenge of controlling your patch whilst managing the mixer and looper. Steady, held drones will produce phasing artifacts when the looper plays ba...

Synths, Loopers Line Mixers and Performance

I'm always looking for simple, relatively compact setups for playing sets or taking to friends' studios, and have been thinking about placing a stereo looper on the stereo send/return pair of a small line mixer, rather than running the looper in-line with a dedicated stereo pair. On paper, it seems ...
