Re: R*S Serge Starter 4U System

Definitely not worthless, luchog, but these threads are a great way to see how people approach their instruments. For me, comparators, logic and dividers are a must... and I lament the loss of my last crossfader when I sold my Gator. So I see a Gator and a Divide+Compare, and I'm like yes.

Re: DUSG Lowpass gate ?

Edit: I’m just gonna stick to J3RK’s reply: I have a pile of his modules in 4u, including LPGs, and his is as clear an explanation as anyone can ask for.

Re: R*S Serge Starter 4U System

Getting a custom panel from Loudest Warning is An expensive initial investment (but actually cheaper than STS or Random*Source), but returns on your investment over time. The Serge preamp works terrifically and has both low- and high-Z inputs. Honestly, you’ll get a better (and cheaper) mic pre stan...

Re:

No, he is mistaken. There is nothing in the Serge line that is equivalent to an LPG. You can use the slew limiter as filter, and if you fiddle with the rise/fall cv in you can mute the input, but at least in my use not in a way that is as useful or straight-forward as you are probably hoping. The DOD Rubberneck has a Send/Return jack. It's an excellent BBD for the price, often goes on sale for around $100.

Thanks!

Re: Favourite Delay Units

Dynacord SRS56 is amazing. two anlogue delays configurable in series, parallel or 'x-mod', also does weird reverbs That's been on my bucket list for years; I just scored a VRS 23 and am well pleased with it. I'm trying to pare the studio down and I really, really hoped that I was over the desire fo...

Morning patch. It needs another repeated "swell" to capture that mid-90s “Autechre throwaway remix” thing, but the patch got pretty unwieldy after a while. Direct to stereo, no edits, etc etc etc.

If we're talking fancy, and oldgearguy says we are ;) - I really liked the Seven Woods Audio SST-206 Space Station - great time-based stuff, all around. I have no experience with the old Ursa Major stuff, though.

Whole lotta Loudest Warning, STS and Random*Source, here. I miss my Gator already. I should have timed my sale better. ;)

Pastoral Serge & Stroh

I meant to put this analogue delay through the paces, but got distracted by the modular stuff, instead. So, here's another slowly repeating figure... kinda reminds me of Morr Music, and especially ISAN. Modules by Stroh, Loudest Warning, STS Serge and Random*Source. https://www.dropbox.com/s/v1wkjiv...

Any notable models named here that have i/o for the feedback path, like the BugBrand PT-Delay (especially the red module) or Serge WAD? Or I guess the Moogerfooger 104, if you're high-class. Delay with a frequency shifter or ring modulator in the feedback path is a joy. (and yes, you can mix and all...

Dynacord VRS 23 Test

I bought one from a fellow Wiggler chiavere and took a few minutes to confirm that it's still healthy. Here's a simple mono modular patch, stereo outputs, toggling between reverb and echo settings as I work the knobs and time presets. Shit. I wanted to be underwhelmed by this way-hyped thing. https:...

I think of it as detailed. Hifi. And while I have no EE experience to back this up, I think Serge stuff just responds really pleasantly to modulation. And yeah, Serge brings the glurp.

And thank you!

Re: Building on a LW Sing To Me panel; wondering how to proceed?

Yeah, I'm a pretty vanilla, tonal muso and I use my smoothed side as a clock, slew limiter or LPG/filter and the stepped as a straighforward sample and hold most of the time. I'm getting another because I want that much more control over the timing of my chords and melodies.
