Re: what's the longest you've had a finished synth for?

I had my system finished for six months too! It felt really nice. Then I got a complex vco and the balance was off

But now I have tried around a bit and I think it might be finished soon again !

Re: what to get next

You should get the maths. It is a great module.

Then maybe you should look a bit into low pass gates, as a complement to your vcas :)

Re: Portable tiny modular system ideas

You will have an absolute nightmare playing on such a crammed system.

I like your idea though, and it will probably work well with your other gear, but I would choose fever modules that are bigger.

Doepfer for example make really nice, playable modules

Re: Eurorack shops

Has anyone ordered from Modular Square in France recently (that was shipped)? Their update about covid and shipping delays is a little unclear. Hi, ordered an Optomix on April 25th from them and waited 2 weeks before calling. They told me that they were able to work at the shop only once a week due...

Re: How do you use your Eurorack?

The modular is basically the studio. I patch up and play the system live, very rarely hit record. The Nord is a recent addition so I can play along with the modular chuntering away - beeping, warbling, droning - I add a few chords and something more melodic over the top. Once i am done* I completel...

Re: I'm digging these drum sounds... save me from going Eurorack

The sounds are quite common, and if you are interested in the cheap option, I would sample them straight up.

You can also check Legowelts webpage. A bunch of free samples there, and two 808 emulations, one 909 and one for claps. That should give u a broad range of drum machine- sounds, for free :)

Re: Chord oscillator for pad purposes

I agree that it is difficult to create chords in a eurorack setting. I tend to overdub using a synth in ableton instead. One trick though, which maybe is not what the OP wants, is to tune your different voices in your patch to a chord. Then you can sequence the root and the fifth without them going ...

Re: What should I do with the last 4HP of this case?

Maybe start with one of the modules that you really like, and a vca and then you start exploring. I started with a maths, a vca and a vco. Played around with that for a month and then I got a sequencer. I jammed with those four modules for a long time, and then you only buy what you need after that....

Re: Have you ever regretted menus on everything?

Interesting topic. I don't like modules where one pot can do different things depending on what mode you have set the module. If the button is yellow, the fader does that, and then you can use it as a sample and hold, but if the button is green the fader control something else and now it is a lfo (?...

I understand why so many people want everything to be as small as possible, but I am always ready to sacrifice more hp for modules that were designed to be playable. :bananaguitar:  :minimoog: I agree. Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

I really wished that I bought a slightly bigger case that could lie down on my desk. My doepfer can only be operated standing up (due to a poorly placed electricity connection) and that has always been a slight annoyance. Besides that I am pretty pleased. I do get GAS but I have managed to sell most...

Re: would you recommend a modular to someone new to making music?

Absolutely I would. Having said that, they would need to put the time in learning like anyone doing any form of music. Even if something seems simple, it takes time to master the simplicity. I think in the same way. I also assume, if I would recommend someone to go modular, that they have an intere...

Sure why not, if they seemed to have an interest with synthesis and modular synths in general.

Here's Herbie Hancock talking about Miles Davis and musical "accidents". (The "accident" story starts at around 2:22, but the whole interview is worth watching.)

Moral: There are no accidents.
I love that clip. Miles really had a way with melodies and harmony

Re: Audio Interface - How to choose?

Everything in totalmix can be mapped to a MIDI controller, so you can almost have a mixer with faders if you feel like going that way. Yeah I have thought about that too and I will probably get myself a nice midi-controller! My first thought was to route everything through my old mixing desk - so t...

Let us know how it works out. Okay I have used the interface for almost a month now and I thought it is time to give my first impressions. Right of the bat: this piece of hardware is amazing. The sound is very precise. First thing I did was to plug in my turntables straight into the balanced inputs...

Re: Electronic music is the music of automation and accidents

Maybe electronic music is a bit more prone towards accidental and random music making as it comes from jamming with machines. I always liked that you found melodies together with the machine, instead of thinking how to transcribe the melody that was in my head, for example. But I still think electro...

Offset. I get it. But at the same time, I don't. How do I know I need to offset? I guess I need to write down every module situation in which an offset is needed. Is there a rule of thumb to knowing without having to get out the manual for every module in every situation? I really like Hermbot’s YT...

Re: Do you use a mixing template?

There is for sure some sort of order in my mixes but each track has its own logic and personality  I don't have a template for Ableton - only reason is that I like that it randomize the colour scheme when you open a new project (which gives the new song its own character!) - but I did have a s...
