Re: Are D sub inputs typically XLR ?

I have an SSL mixer with 17 D-sub cables attached, XLR male, XLR female and (balanced) telejack. To the sound card (Antelope) there are D-sub/D-sub cables attached. First I bought some 25-pin connectors to soldering but soon realized it wasn’t that bright idea as I imagined it to be. I bought my D-s...

Two third of your dream (not a bad dream) can now be fulfilled: Hydrasynth is there, Prophet 10 desktop is now released. The future looks bright.

Oberheim OB-X by Sequential rumor

There are rumors going on online about a reissue (?) of Oberheim OB-X by Sequential, based on the patented name OB-X by Sequential. Dave Smith also said earlier that they have something very interesting and powerful coming up this summer. He has also mentioned “before Uli (Behringer) when he talked ...

Re: Sequential's "magic" vintage knob.

I read somewhere the Vintage knob variations was built on some randomized step sequencer of many different parameters and degrees. I don’t know if that article was reliable or not as I’m not a technician but it make sense to me. Anyhow, together with the filter options the Vintage knob is absolutely...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

A mixing board that is designed for an ultra clean smooth signal coming from high quality transducers might not be the best choice for that or, at least, not be necessary if the signal is already pretty clean. Low noise, some decent headroom and routing flexibility are what I look for in a mixer. T...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

Bad sound kills good synths. If invest $$$$ in great instruments it’s a pity to not let them shine as good as they can. If one appreciate the sound of well built hardware instruments one will do the same with mixers, compressors etc. If software instruments is the preferred way to go then these outb...

Re: Audiointerfaces with lots of inputs

I have two sound cards in different price range that I’m completely happy with (and therefore can recommend): - Antelope 32 with simultaneous 32 in and 32 out plus additional ADAT (16 ch) and MADI (64 ch) as options - works as a programable digital patch bay with all inputs and outputs. For use in m...

Audio over CAT5 is great, except that those things at the Ebay announcement wont take +48V if you need for phantom power.

Re: Sampler for ambient / noise couch jams

For noisy ambient stuff I would go for an older 8-bit sampler and a great reverb (such Eventide Black Hole software or Strymon Big Sky pedal).

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

If you want an Xpander, you are getting it because you know something about sound design and synthesizer programing and have some sort of love of analog. Your not going to buy one for the cool presets it comes with. True, it isn’t a toy for preset cowboys but a deep well of pleasure for a long anal...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

The sound is classic old school unlike new polys (except the new Prophet 5/10 rev 4). It’s something with the attack, the core and focus of the sound. It took me a period of time to learn how to program and take benefit of the many possibilities to make it shine. The Xpander doesn’t replace other po...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

I had Xpander and Matrix1000 simultaneously (but sold the M1000). In my ears they are not even close. I don’t say that to appear as snobby but it was a not that small difference.

Prophet 10 arrived today and it is a truly beautiful, inspiring instrument. The additions of velocity and aftertouch really add to its playability.
Congratulations!

Re: Korg ARP 2600 availability

In Germany, it is often referred to as The Thunberg Function... to keep little Greta happy. oh - that's a bit disappointing - I thought the Germans had more sense... that's the sort of crap we have to put up with here in the UK. I think turning devices off to save electricity is a pretty goog idea ...

Re: SSL Six. New small format mixing desk

Bought a Six to my son who turned 30 (he used to be in a studio with an SSL AWS 900) and of course tried it out. Without any A/B comparison to my SSL Matrix with X-rack it sounded even slightly greater than my SSL system, the sound was just nailed with focus, depth and width. I would say its a perfe...

You got it right first. :cloud: Of course, I’m an analog prophet ;) I own an OB6 Glad I'll never have the Prophet-5 vs. Prophet-6 dilemma  I had until y...

Re: Oberheim Xpander and modern analogue synths

Programming the Xpander as a regular polysynth does not make it that powerful. But I found this way to program the Xpander to be extremely powerful: - Program a sound and make 5 copies of it (totally 6 patches of the same sound) in single mode and put together to a multipatch (e.g. 51 to voice 1, 52...

I was watching some Behringer System 100 videos just now and while I liked the sound, I've suddenly realised that the Korg Arp 2600 workflow has killed my GAS for the system 100 stone dead. I have the 2600FS and Roland System 100m side by side in my studio. I must admit I used the 100m only once si...

I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow. What stands are people using? I'm assuming a typical spider style 2 tier stand would work well?
It should work. I have mina on a Millennium Spider clone stand and it works great.
